OVERVIEW:

So, what is the most beautiful piston engine airliner? Pose this question among two or more aviation enthusiasts and you may be sure that a lively, possibly heated discussion will ensue. However, I would be quite surprised if most, if not all, would ultimately agree that the Lockheed “Constellation” was the most beautiful, graceful if you prefer, or at least among the top two or three.

The “Connie,” as it was universally and affectionately called (much to the dismay of Eddie Rickenbacker of WWI fame who, as the owner of Eastern Airlines, thought the name to be too effeminate) was a spectacular and singular aeronautical design from the first rude sketch of “Excalibur” to the last L-1649 “Starliner.” Gathering many firsts and breaking many records in its almost five decades-long useful lifetime, Constellation consistently stands out from her sister airliners both visually and functionally. Sadly, the many luminous stars embodying this “Constellation” were ultimately eclipsed when at their brightest by the urgent, inexorable force of progress which saw the end of the age of the long-distance piston engine airliners and the birth of the big, jet-powered transports. This new era of air-transportation in the U.S. Began on 26 October 1958 when Pan American Airlines (Pan Am) flew a Boeing 707 with 111 passengers from New York to London. Soon, the jet-powered Douglas DC-8, Convair 880 and Sud Aviation “Caravelle” joined the 707 and long-range piston airliners were through.

Even so, there are many, this writer among them, who posit that even whilst swifter, no kerosene burning aluminum tube has ever come close to matching Connie’s superb grace and poise. Her story is full of ironies and surprises, of Geniuses, Presidents and Pioneers. You see, there once was this fabulously wealthy, incandescently brilliant, eccentric movie mogul, aviator and airline owner who had an idea for an airplane... - Excerpt from Constellation manual history by Mitchell Glicksman © 2016

FEATURES:

History comes alive: Experience a timeless legend brought to life inside a simulation.

Every aircraft is unique: Don't expect all gauges to read the same values, just like the real airplane. And each airplane is persistent.

Four crew positions: pilot, co-pilot, flight engineer, and navigator. Fully modelled and functioning positions constructed with down to the rivet detail.

Intelligent crew and responsive passengers:

Your engineer can manage all the systems on the fly, responding to various conditions

- Copilot calls out critical info

- Navigator observes and posts findings

- Flight attendent tirelessly works for both you and the passengers (just like the real world counterparts)

Unexpected events possible: Engines along with other systems including heating, air conditioning, and pressurization can be problematic

Captain's Career: Your performance is remembered and can get better, worse, or stay consistent based on your flying abilities and flight management

Real time Load Manager: with the ability to load individual passengers, cargo, and fuel or select presets.

Custom Navigator's Map: Zoomable map can be customized to show the desired information

Default and Historic Sperry Autopilot: You can select either autopilot in the sim

Authentic fuel deliver includes primer only starts: You can start the engines properly by using primer with the mixture in the OFF position.

Auto-Mixture: that actually performs as intended. Now you can set for “auto-rich” or "auto-lean" and the aircraft fuel to air ratio will be automatically determined and set by the carburetor based upon various factors such as altitude.

Custom Cockpit Systems and Gauges for the ultimate in realism taken far beyond what is available by default.

Inertia starters: Start these big beautiful engines by the book using authentic inertia wheel energizing and engagment

Feathering props and air starts: Custom physics allows for realistic feathering and air starts without using the starter

Deep cockpit lighting: Flood, Flourescent, and gauge lighting modeled

Dual speed superchargers: Proper supercharger physics and each engine can independently run in either high or low blower

New slip and ball code from the Accu-Sim T-6: Enjoy smooth, custom physics in this critical gauge during turning maneuvers

Authentic flight stability: The Connie was known for being a little less stable in pitch than other aircraft, which requires a little more finess and attention

Piston combustion engine modeling

Real-world conditions affect system conditions, including engine temperatures.

Fully click-able cockpits: with authentically working systems and gauges.

3D Lights 'M' (built directly into the model.)

Pure 3D Instrumentation.

- Natural 3D appearance with exceptional performance.

- Smooth movements.

Fire Extinguisher system with fully functioning overheard panel and controls.

Ground Power Unit (GPU) to power systems with engines off and not drain the battery.

Cabin pressurization system controls. You control the target altitude and the rate of pressure change and the system authentically displays and manages cabin pressure.

Three different liveries: including TWA, BOAC, and a C-69 cargo paint

A2A specialized bump mapping and specular lighting on all models.

Crew Reports pop-up 2D panel keeps important information easily available

Custom Navigator's map: accessible via keystroke or the Navigators station.

Manage temperatures with engine cowl flaps and oil cooler flaps

High temperatures can adversely affect engine performance, Serious overheating can cause scoring of cylinder head walls including ultimate failure if warnings are ignored and overly abused.

Spark plugs can clog and eventually foul if engines are allowed to idle too low for too long. Throttling up an engine with oil-soaked spark plugs can help clear them out

Experience authentic asymmetrical drag when operating various flap systems in flight.

REVIEWS
Following the T6 Texan, A2A released another big 4-motor aircraft: the Constellation.
This was very exciting, as A2A improves their products with every new release. Makes you wonder what “Connie” has as improvements compared to the earlier released Boeing 337 Stratocruiser.
FSX has limits, A2A however always delivered very well operating aircrafts. Question is how much better a product can they deliver?

VIRTUALCOL - EMBRAER 170-175 REGIONAL JETS FOR FSX P3D
HECTOR ALEJANDRO RODRIGUEZ DE ALBA
Nice add on. Very flyable model. I think that something to improve is to add information about the flaps deployed acccording the approach speed in the owner´s manual. At night there is no way to turn off of dimm the cockpit lights. The engines sound need to be more powerful... Go-
od job about the call the gorund serivces..I like it so much. I recommend this package!

Great Scenery Accurate Detail and nice scenery features. I just wish if this version has more surrounding features such as Roads and cars + general buildings around the airport area to add a real life feeling! Nevertheles-
s! SUPERB WORK and thanks to the TropicalSim Team for still supporting FS9! Much appreciated!!!

AFS-DESIGN - AIRBUS A350 P3D
FRANKLYN SALOMONS
I have purchased my share of sim-lite type aircraft and found them rather enjoyable for what they're worth. When I saw the AFS A350 released for P3D I thought why not? Now the V1 release which you'll see on youtube is really old and looks far from an A350, but the V2 is improved and wanting an A350 with a representative VC in Prepar3d ( I have the freeware FSP version, but the aliased A320/330 VC bugged me) I dove in to take one for the team. When first released it was listed as V4 ready but this was quickly removed. I thought it was probably gauges but I still have V3.4 so no biggie, install away. Installed in V4 as well. In V3, it loads at my selected airport, but, no button in the VC works. Bring up the 2D panels, they work, but nothing in the 3D vc responds. Not a good start. I looked in the sim objects panel folder and the gauges are all xml files, so this should not be an issue, unless... I loaded V4. Now it does not officially support V4 but lets be honest, the default FSX aircraft and many FSX native freeware port over just fine as long as they don't depend on dll's. But this A350, "Cannot load model" in the vehicle selection screen. Uh oh. This begins to confirm my suspicion. Load it anyway, select my scenario, loading, crash to desktop. Now a model that claims to be made for P3D having these much issues in two different P3D version where much older (almost 10 year old) FSX models load fine? So I pull up Model Converter X to check and sure enough, FS2004 based mdl file. Did a quick convert (sans animations) and it loads up in P3D v4 select screen and no crash scenario loads. I have to say that in light of this discovery I'm very dissapointed with this developer. I was hoping to get it flying in V4 with some tweaks and offset the seeming negative views towards AFS with an honest recorded flight. but no. You release a model claiming it is P3D specific but its just the same FS2004 based mdl because it seemed to work? Not even tried to recompile with any P3D SDK. Nope. AFS Design let me give you some advice, Prepar3d V4 is here as well as Flight Sim World, the Microsoft ESP engine is moving forward in 64 bit era, these past few and upcoming weeks are a crucial time as people who are transitioning are eager for Natively produced models and sceneries. Many small developers like you have updated their products supporting FS9 to P3D V4 with each installer made with the Sim's Native SDK. And check the reviews, customers are won over. heck, even DD added an FSW install option to their scenery. I've purchase addons from developers I haven't before just because they made that effort and seeing what they did i would by from them again in a heartbeat. In closing, this item labelled as for P3D is outright untrue, but you can redeem yourself. Recompile it with the proper SDK and give that to your existing customers. I personally will rate you higher if you pull through. You have an opportunity right now to gain favor with the community during the transition to V4 and FSW. Other developers have gone in and are reaping the rewards. Don't get left behind. Your move.

A fantastic representation of this airport. Another great quality scenery from Jetstream Designs.
JUSTSIM - DÜSSELDORF AIRPORT EDDL FSX P3D

This scenery is really a let down by the ground textures. JUSTSIM other sceneries have better ground textures. It really is disappointing considering the buildings look great. You cannot see it easily from the distance but when taxiing it really shows.
AEROSOFT - TRONDHEIM- VAERNES X 2.0 FSX P3D

This is one of the BEST and comprehensive in terms of developments and advancements I have seen, for instance the animated passengers adds a excellent realism to the overall sim and experience. The only negative thing is that the elevation is WAY off for instance on a downward view it takes you under ground, and some GSX integration errors seem apparent, when gSX was offloading my aircrafts luggage, the luggage containers were in the air, and there was NO baggage handler or equipment in sight as they were under ground again directly due to this elevation error. Also, it seems for a pretty average airport in terms of size it is pretty frame-rate hungry, I have a decent spec PC and overall setup and I am getting some frame rates on ground of 6-10FPS with an average aircraft that I have had or don't have any issue in much more graphic challenging airports such as Mallorca, Malaga X etc in terms of size and details-hopeful-
ly these will be rectified/or improved in an update in the very NEAR future, otherwise it is an excellent rendition and enjoyable airport and approach.
