Antonov 12 lining up at Sperenberg.

The withdrawal from Germany of this great Air Force in the 90's.

On this magnificent video you can see the Sukhoi 25's departing from their home base Tutow, Sukhoi 17's from Templin and various aircraft operating from Sperenberg.

Tutow, close to the city of Demmin in the northern part of the GDR had a runway of 2100 meters. The Su-25's from 368 Squadron (OShAP) left Tutow on June 15 1993, stopping overnight at Templin before flying on to its new home at Budjonnowsk in Russia.

Templin (Gross Doelln), with callsign "Leopard", was situated 58 Kilometers north of Berlin and had two runways. One 3500 meters, 09/27 and one 2500 meters, 01/19. The Sukhoi 17's from two squadrons left their home base on April 5, 1994 for their final flight to Taganrog, Russia. Here the regiment disbanded, but it is not known whether its aircraft were scrapped or turned over to the AV-MF. The last plane took off at 10.30 local time.

Sperenberg, south of Berlin, was the main transport base. Runway was 09/27 and housed transport, reconnaissance and helicopter regiments. The An-12, An-26, Tu-134, the rare Il-20 Coot A, Mil-8 and Mil-24 helicopters had Sperenberg as their home base. Every day the mail flight from Moscow, operated with various types like the Tu-154 or Il-18, landed at Sperenberg and can be seen on this video. Also heavy action by An-22, An-125 and Il-76 giants.

Sukhoi 17, Templin April 5, 1994

As you see, many Russian aircraft types ranging from airliners to fighters are included on this one hour video, including the withdrawal parade and airshow with Mig-29's and a Su-27 on May 27, 1994 at Sperenberg AFb. Rare footage, not available from any other video publisher!

Technical notes

All our DVDs are PAL system. However, if you're not watching your DVDs on a computer, you still need to ensure they are compatible with your national TV system. Many US DVD players are multi-region, not multi-system, and you will need to buy NTSC DVD-Rs. Some early DVD players won't play DVD-Rs. If in doubt, ask APVW  to check if your machine is OK for this format. All our DVDs will play in any computer DVD drive.

We offer DVD+R and DVD-R. If you don't know what type of DVD your player accepts, send the type of the player to APVW  and they will find it out.
