Osnova HRK

UKHH Kharkiv Osnova is scenery of UKHH airport, situated in Kharkiv, Ukraine. This scenery is further development of UKHH scenery 2008, released on avsim.su. Now in is actualized by year 2013.

Kharkiv airport started operations on 6 December 1932. The airport complex consisted of ground runway, two-storeyed building and other ground services. In august 1933 airport was given a name of P.P. Postyshev and in 1936 was acknowledged as the best airport in USSR. In 1941 concrete runway was built.
During the WWII airport was severely damaged. Runways, steering pathways and parking places were not in the usable state. The research made afterwards says that there were 2-3 shell-holes on every 100 meters. The airport building and the hangars were destroyed too.

By the beginning of the 70’s Kharkiv airport served 600,000 passengers a year and in 10 years this number rose to 900,000. At the same time city was growing larger and came close to the airport.

Volumes of flights in the existing airport fell by dozens of times in the beginning of the 90’s. In 1995 a reconstruction of the airport building was made, including creation of the customs and border controls. Runway was reconstructed as well, which allowed airport to run the flights on Il-76.

On 28 August 2010 a new contemporary passenger terminal was opened. Its’ area is 20000 sq.m. and carrying capacity is 650 passengers per hour. The old airport building was also reconstructed and transformed into terminal for VIP passengers. Terminal saved its stalinistic style, a new restaurant “Poliot” was opened, offering soviet-style cuisine and interior. A new hangar consisting of 3 sections was opened for parking and maintenance of private aircrafts. In 2011 a new 2500 m runway was built. It allows to serve big aircrafts for flights on medium distances.

In summer 2012 airport has successfully served passengers who came to Kharkiv to watch football European championship. For the period of Euro-2012 the hangar was transformed into temporary terminal in order to unload the main one and increase the comfort of arriving and departing passengers. This allowed to serve 1500 take-offs and landings of aircraft carrying 52,500 passengers on board during the championship.

In 2013 airport successfully served landing and take-off of An-124 “Ruslan”, which has the highest take-off mass of 392 tons among all planes that have ever landed in Kharkiv airport.

13th FEB 2016 - Review of KHARKIV Airport (UKHH) scenery for FS2004 (FS9) by Baich Igor. Review system - Intel Dual Core E5400 CPU, Gigabyte Mobo, 2GB DDR3 Dual Channel System RAM, GeForce 8800 GTS 2GB Graphics Card, 1TB WD 7200rpm HDD running on Windows XP Pro SP3. First of all, not many flights operate into and out of this little airport - but it is definately NOT the reason to give it a miss! This is a wonderful little airport scenery at an exceptional price! The attention to detail is awesome. The volumetric grass effects, the moving vehicles (even in the airport car park!) as well as the use of the obscured old runway as a taxiway, just as in real life, make this scenery a very nice piece of work by a little known designer. I, myself thought that he had forgotten to "exclude" the original runway when I first installed this scenery. Until I discovered that the real airport only has part of the old runway removed, leaving the remainder to fit in with the taxiway system! Thanks to a very quick response from the Author to an email of mine, I checked out Google Earth and sure enough, the old runway is still partly there! For a small airport scenery at a small price, the designer has packed in a lot of detail and it all works wonderfully. It even looks good in the winter snow! No frame rate issues at all on even an old system like mine. Very fluid everywhere from the busy ramp detail, out to the runway. I flew the Pegasus Airlines Boeing 737-800 service from Istanbul Sabiha-Gokcen (LTFJ) airport, up to Kharkiv and it was a lovely flight. Using up to date charts was not a problem and the arrival worked well. For me, this is another example of the sort of work that can be presented by a small, talented designer to show off a possibly obscure airport in eastern Europe to us poor westerners! The static aircraft are also extremely well done. Take my advice - go and get it! It's a wonderful little piece of work! Lee James - West Sussex UK
