DOMAERO - LA ROMANA CASA DE CAMPO MDLR

La Romana with its around 158'000 residents is located direct at the Caribbean Sea in the south east of the 'Hispaniola' Island, around 60 miles (100km) east of the capital Las Americas. It's the centre of the economic activities in eastern Dominican Republic. The city is pretty young, it was founded in 1897. First it was a small village with only 30 residents. They built their houses on the banks of the "Romana"-River, and this gave the city the name it has today. 1917 was an important year for the city: "Central Romana" a sugar production plant was built and brought economic growth in the following years to the area. This lasted until the 1970's, when the "Casa de Campo" resort was founded, one of the most famous resorts of the world. It sprawls across 2'833 hectares (!) and includes for example three golf courses. Of course the city and the resort are still very popular for tourists. Here you can enjoy beautiful beaches, nice vegetation, good weather and friendly people.
