Short airports description

Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport (IATA: RZE, ICAO: EPRZ) is an international airport located in southeastern Poland, in Jasionka, a village 10 km (6.2 mi) from the center of the city of Rzeszów. It is the seventh-busiest airport in Poland, and has seasonal transatlantic connections. Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport, situated 7.8 km (4.8 mi) north of Rzeszów, features the second-longest runway in Poland: 3,200 m × 45 m (10,499 ft × 148 ft). The beginnings of Rzeszów Airport date back to the years of German occupation, when in 1940 a new runway (1200m long x 40m wide) was constructed in Jasionka for the purposes of war. Considering the constant, successive development of Rzeszów –Jasionka, one cannot ignored new heavy investments such as a new administrative - technical base, petrol station and - above all – the refurbished and extended runway (3200 meter long and 45 meter wide), the second apron, as well as, taxiway. In the near future, new passenger terminal with the ultimate capacity of about 1440 pax/hour in the third stage of works is supposed to be constructed.

Katowice International Airport (Polish: Międzynarodowy Port Lotniczy Katowice-Pyrzowice) (IATA: KTW, ICAO: EPKT) is an international airport, located in Pyrzowice, 30 km (19 mi) north northwest of Katowice, Poland. The airport features two passenger terminals A and B (completed in 2007) and a cargo terminal. Its concrete runway is 2,800 m × 60 m (9,186 ft × 197 ft) and can accommodate aircraft as large as Boeing 747 or Boeing 777, albeit not at Maximum Takeoff Weight. Heavy transports such as Antonov An-124 or An-225 also land there from time to time.Passenger Terminal B, officially put into operation on July 30th, 2007, has been the biggest investment so far in the 16 years of operation of Górnośląskie Towarzystwo Lotnicze S.A. It has enabled handling up to 3.6 million passengers annually in comfortable conditions. The International Airport in Katowice is constantly developing. In the very neare future, further extension of the aprons is planned, as well as the construction of a third passenger terminal and a new runway strip.

Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport (Polish: Port Lotniczy Gdańsk im. Lecha Wałęsy, formerly Polish: Port Lotniczy Gdańsk-Rębiechowo) (IATA: GDN, ICAO: EPGD) is an international airport located 12 km (7.5 mi) west northwest of Gdańsk, Poland, not far from the city centres of the Tricity metropolitan area: Gdańsk (12 km (7.5 mi)), Sopot (10 km (6.2 mi)) and Gdynia (23 km (14 mi)). The airport is named after Lech Wałęsa, the former Polish president. The first civilian airport in Gdansk was set up after World War I following the adaptation of the military airfield built in 1910 in the Wrzeszcz district of Gdansk, formerly known as Langfuhr. In the 1920s Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport was transformed into an international airport, also servicing transit flights. In response to the growing needs of this dynamically developing region the decision was taken to change the location of the airport from the city centre to an area with room for the growth of both Gdansk's aviation services as well as the Bay of Gdansk conurbation. The first Polish airport built completely from scratch was launched on May 2nd 1974 in Gdansk-Rębiechowo. Located on the Wysoczyzna Kaszubska upland, 10 kilometres west of Gdansk and 23 kilometres south of Gdynia, and occupying 240 ha, it created significant market potential for the servicing of air transport. Alongside the political and industrial changes the airport changed, too. In the Millenium year when Gdansk celebrated its 1,000th anniversary, on August 4th 1997, the first passenger was cleared in the new terminal. Today, Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport is a part of the national, international and global transportation network. Being the third largest airport in Poland it serves as an auxiliary airport for Warsaw.
