Scenery Addon for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004

The FlightParis BasePack covers the integrality of the lle-de-France region with high quality photorealistic textures. Each of the 29 default airports on the scenery has been reworked to closely fit the phototexture with precisely aligned taxiways, buildings, and objects, greatly enhancing these from the standard Flight Simulator 2004 fare. Therefore, the virtual pilot can experience both VFR and IFR flights within a very large zone with a degree of realism never attained before in this region.

Our goal during the development of this new concept of scenery add-ons was to recreate a realistic flying experience from the eyes of a pilot.

The “Flight” series has a modular approach with an optimized photoscenery base on which additional sceneries featuring highly detailed airports and scenery elements will be integrated.

The first of the FlightParis series, the BasePack is an optimized package where all the default scenery elements have been reworked. The upcoming FlightZones will further add to the realism of the region with high-resolution photorealistic airports, full custom autogen and all VFR landmarks. (custom power lines, water towers, factories, churches, etc.)

“…French airports like you have never seen them in a virtual environment. Real pilots will find back on their PC their usual VFR landmarks and can also recreate all IFR procedures with an unprecedented realism. A piece of art and an open window on the future for learning possibilities!” Etienne Benhada, Micro Simulateur

BASEPACK AND FLIGHTZONES : A MODULAR CONCEPT

Both the BasePack and the accompanying FlightZones are stand-alone packages that complement each other. The first provides high-quality photoscenery and base scenery optimization, while the latter features fully detailed photorealistic airports created from the real installations, high-resolution ground airport textures, photorealistic buildings and many other details, enhancing the realism of the flying experience.

Each FlightZone will also feature full custom autogen for buildings and trees, all precisely placed on the photoscenery. Finally, the main VFR landmarks will be added, all those detailed summed to recreate the feeling of being there. The FlightParis series will have 5 FlightZones: South, North, East, West and of course Cité, Paris in itself. Each flightzone will include 4 to 6 airports.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

  • 12000 km2 of photoscenery coverage (all 8 Parisian departments)
  • Textures made from high quality aerial photography (NOT satellite imagery), reworked for an optimal rendition in Flight Simulator.
  • Ground textures are summer only. Night and all seasons will be available on an upcoming DVD version of this product.
  • Custom mesh for the whole region.
  • Rivers, lakes and streams are faithfully represented and optimized with coast flattening (no water “climbing”). These bodies of water are landable.
  • 25 airfields/airports, 3 Ultralight fields and a private strip. These airports have been optimized to fit the photoscenery perfectly : precise taxiway and apron positioning, replaced buildings and hangars, windsocks, towers, etc.
  • All the airports’ surroundings have been reworked to remove the ‘cliff’ effect caused by the presence of a precise mesh under the ‘flat’ Flight Simulator runways. The Paris airports are now free of these unsightly cliffs.
  • All default 3D elements have been faithfully repositioned (monuments, buildings, antennas, etc.) to make them fit the photoscenery.
  • Extremely precise geo-referenced texture positioning, ensuring a maximal compatibility with scenery add-ons for this region.
  • Development process fully compliant with the Microsoft SDK, ensuring a maximal compatibility with future versions of Flight Simulator.
  • Open BasePack concept, allowing easy integration of scenery add-ons from other editors.
  • Optimization of the default scenery components for the region, allowing a better framerate throughout the zone. (Our testers have reported that with FlightParis BasePack installed, they actually get better framerates than the default Microsoft scenery).
  • Comprehensive maps and flight documentation for all the included airports in PDF format : (Enroute, SID/STAR, IFR plates, VFR approaches and airport diagrams.)

The AutogenPack is the second pane of the FlightParis scenery and complements the photo-realistic BasePack with buildings and vegetation mandatory to achieve a realistic visual of the area.

This complement provides an Autogen coverage of about 12500 km² and is made of trees, buildings, warehouses and houses meticulously positionned on the BasePack photo-realistic texture.

In order to depict the specificities of the different Paris areas, we have developped a set of specific Autogen textures for the Paris area, towns, industrial areas, villages...

With this new Autogen pack, FlightParis is the first scenery developed for Flight Simulator that offers a specific Autogen coverage with such a surface and density bringing a level of realism never seen before.

Technical Specifications

  • Autogen coverage (Trees, houses, buildings…) all over the whole Ile de France area (about 12500 km²).
  • Specific autogen textures provided for each region of the Ile de France.
  • Night texture provided for each specific autogen texture.
