Washington seems to have an extraordinary attraction to flight simmers AND designers alike. Look at the success of many of the Georender fields, Emma Field, Bremerton, Elma and others. The latest addition for you to feast your eyes on is Harvey Field and Monroe, presented to you here. These are rural private airfields, meticulously modelled for you by Bob Bernstein, one of the other 'scenery masters' that this industry harbors.
With Harvey and Monroe you get the arifields, ALL the buildings as in the real thing, on BOTH fields, a photorealistic area covering the fields, the area around and between them, custom made mesh (by Justin Tyme of FSGenesis !), SOUNDS by Meatwater (and Oliver Pabst), MOVEMENT of trucks, hangar doors, cars, balloons even (!!), a full day of AI flying, courtesy of Peter McLeland and of course the atmosphere of a small field.... courtsey of Bob.
The balloon sequence (and other mevement you'll see) is made possible by using VistaMare's IntelliScene software, skillfully applied by Oliver Pabst and Bob. The whole thing really adds LIFE to the field and we are certain that Harvey Field will spark yet another wave of GA and Bush flying activities.
This is the PERFECT field for a new (or existing) flying club.
During its development the software has been shown a few times to the airfield owners AND to some members of the Microsoft development team (some of whom fly out of Harvey themselves!) ... all were enthusiastic about it, and that in itself was a great boost to Bob's energy to finish it ! And the result shows it......
Bob Bernstein, who has regularly visited the field and met with the owner on those occasions, says:
"...........Probably my favorite airport in the world, Harvey Field is a wonderful bubble of activity. Along with a lot of GA activity there is a skydiving school located just west of the main fuel area, and a ballooning company nearby. Family owned for generations, the property became an airport in the ‘40s. Prior to that, the land was farmed, and the barn and some farm outbuildings remain standing today. The grey house near the south end of the airport is the old homestead. The Harvey’s still own and operate the airport. Kandace is the boss, with her kids serving many critical roles. The main home appears in this scenery as still under construction. In truth it’s completed now, but my photo images are from a bit ago. This home replaced a previous structure that was destroyed by an errant Cessna.
The farm is located in the fertile valley of the Snohomish River. When flying this area in the real world, the valleys are markedly obvious, compared to the highlands. I tried to capture this difference with extended ‘phototerrain’ using the valley walls as a natural transition area to the default.
The evidence of the history of this land still stands. Hangars built to house the growing demand for GA parking space have surrounded the old farm’s barn and other farming out buildings. The old farmhouse also still stands, next to the more modern family dwellings near the southern runway threshold. This house reminds us of a time in which this homestead was an outpost on the frontier.
This airfield thrives due to the love for all things flying within the Harvey family..........."
