FSAddon Publishing, the house of the very successful products by people like Goldstein, Sandmann, Bernstein and many others, making such wonderful titles as Orcas Island, Lake Wenatchee, Misty Fjords, Harvey & Monroe and more, is running a Windows server for multi-player purposes. On it, many people are enjoying this hobby in a very active way, by flying together in a variety of virtual aircraft operations.
Well-known outfits such as Alaskanwinds, Misty Moorings (the Misty Fjords fans), the Emma Field Flying Club, BushPilots.net and now Aurora Air Services are using the server already. They all have their own dedicated MP sessions, some are password protected, others are open to all.
Most of the outfits are happy to welcome new members too and the passwords are only there to protect players from the odd stray pilot without any manners.
The problem: Windows servers cost a lot of money..... and unfortunately the FSHost program that is used to connect players does not (yet) run on Linux.
Until now the server is being paid out of private funding, but it costs some 75 Euros per month and is getting to be a bit of a strain. Many members of the forementioned groups have already indicated to be willing to chip in and help lessen the burden of running the server.
So here is your chance. We made it 'donationware', meaning that you can help us fund and run it by paying a small fee as 'donation'. We put it at 10 Euros (about 12 US$) minimum. If you want to donate more, then you can enter this amount above. We leave it totally up to you.
And if you just want to use it for free, fine too. Not everybody can spare an extra 10 bucks.... I know there were times when I couldn't. No sweat! The only risk is that at one point the private funds run out and we'll have to stop renting the server. Simple.
What do you get for your donation, apart from a warm fuzzy feeling on those long winter nights that are coming again!? We'll put your name on a separate page on the FSAddon website, honoring every supporter. |
