The "Bayrische Wald" (bavarian forest) is one of the most loved holiday areas in germany. And there you have to work on the locos.
Starting in Plattling, the largest station on this route with a lot of industrial tracks, the route crosses the Donau river close to Deggendorf. In Deggendorf the first branch lines starts from the main route. The first one goes 4 km to Metten and on the other side the track goes to the harbour of Deggendorf.
Now the gradient grows up into the bavarian forest with his small sensation, the double loop at Ulrichsberg. After the station Ulrichsberg and the tunnel through the Kühberg you can see your own route left below. Next station is Gotteszell. There is the split over Viechtach to Blaibach.
This route was a private branch line all the times. Well known is the chalk-pit Prünst and the paper factory Teisnach. Viechtach is the home of the Regentalbahn (railroad company). In Blaibach is the connection to the DB route to Cham-Lam.
From Gotteszell the main route goes over Triefenried to Regen. The name is coming from the river. Now Zwiesel is near. There two branch lines leaves the main route. The tracks to Grafenau and Bodenmais. Because of this track splitting the name of this station is Zwieseler Spider. Both branch lines are very typical for this area and have the original branch line flair with a lot of crossings and small stations. The main routes goes up to Bayrisch Eisenstein where this route ends. In fact this is only a half station because the other half is on the tschech side and the border is right in the middle. In the eighties the west world ends here.
The main railcar on this route was the VT 07 of the Regentalbahn. Freight trains were pulled mostly by the MaK loco of the Regentalbahn. But you will find also a lot of locomotives from the DB like 211, 212, 217, 218, 260 and the small Köf II. And, of course, the railcars VT 98 and VT 11.5 als the Alps-Sea-Express. For the electrified part of the route the 110, 111 and 140 is available. Some steam locos are also included.
This route is the most advanced route of German Railroads and gives a lot of fun with the MSTS.
