At last, a bang up-to-the-minute new version of KEWR Newark for Flight Simulator. Newark is among the most important airports in the US, a vital destination for most of the world's premier airlines and a major base for Continental. You will find right across the airport land area literally thousands of objects created with incredible accuracy and placed with the aid of pin-point satellite photography.
The airport features custom made runways, terminal buildings rendered to 10cm per pixel scale, smoothly operating jetways that dock with your aircraft’s forward door with an interactive docking system to park you right on your mark, taxiways with highly realistic concrete textures, full airport taxiway and runway signage, 3D approach lighting and full ILS navigation. There are hundreds of airport vehicles and ground personnel, aircraft can be found parked at custom textured parking positions, all hangers, cargo and airport auxiliary buildings are modelled, there is even a complete and secure perimeter fence with security checkpoints and emergency vehicle access points - all under the steady gaze of intermittently placed security cameras!
In addition to all of this, KEWR looks stunning after dark with beautifully lit buildings and parking areas. Complete airport taxiway and runway lighting is also included.

I can't vouch for previous ratings for this airport. I have an average machine and with almost all detail levels maxed out and I get decent fps for this airport. No there aren't any moving vehicles, but the scenery is really well done. The animated jetways are a plus. |

6/20/2006 Ok for the guys who wrote the previous reviews when you make a statement about a scenery value and frame rate, make sure you include your PC-specifications. After several weeks I was holding off buying this because I read the previous reviews and figured Imagine Sim really messed this one up. But, after re reading them I realised none of these guys indicated their specs? Or knew what they were talking about just because the other guy stated the frame rate was bad. Very bad! What's not fast for your system may be speed demon on mine? I found the scenery to be fluid enough to enjoy(18 to 25fps)at maximum settings and the day textures are great. Attention to detail is superb but, the night building textures need some work. By deleting the AI-traffic(I fly on-line) I increased another 5fps even with heavy clouds. I would say the scenery was a bold and daring Imagine Sim project when you consider the New York area is a highly dense default scenery even without addons. Most other developers will not touch this area of the east coast? My Specs: Sony Vaio, P4 3.4HT, 2meg ram 250gb hard drive, ATI-X1600 512m 23inch Samsung LCD monitor, Win-XP Ultimate terrain/ FS-genesis/ installed. Like I said, please include your system specs when you talk about frame rates so maybe the rest of us can make a fair evaluation, thanks. |

I agree with all. To add to Simmons Comments you'd better be a D@#$ good pilot to land at this airport. Say bye bye to achieving under a -300ft. per min descent rate. Pilots BEWARE on this purchace - lock in ILS and view landing approach from wing views. Good luck but at least you can say the frame rates are slightly faster. Sincerely Dissapointed, Regards |

Somewhat dissapointing, The major issue I have with Imagine's Newark is NO MOVING AIRPORT VEHICLES TRAFFIC I buy nearly everyones scenery of large airports and thought Simflyers Newark was good enough and that this release would be significantly better. In short: the frame rates are better, buildings, surroundings and jetways are better. But still not up to 2006 expected levels like Fly Tampa and Japan's Simmers Sky and Aerosoft. Without moving ground vehicles, large airports lack there dynamics. You can be at the busiest airport and wait a long time before you see aircraft movement but gound vehicle traffic is always present. Also, Night textures are good on the buildings but not adaquate on the tarmack. Night lighting does not spread out enough for good airport directions to the gate duringing a night landing or takeoff. The Afcad file is also incorrect. In conclusion: Imagine does produce good scenery on a timely schedule, a lot better that the other companies. A little more attention to the items that bring an airport alive,(vehicles, trams, night lights, etc.) would put them in the top arenas where they belong. P.S. Frame rate is no excuse for no gound vehicles. They can be turned off for slower systems. |
