In early March 2010, we released the Diamond DA-40 Diamond Star XLS to the flight simulation community. Apart from a few minor issues, the aircraft was very well received by our customer base.
However, that being said, it was quite obvious from the outset that our customers wanted just one more plane from the Diamond stable, the twin engine Diamond DA-42 Twin Star.
This product is a direct response from our fantastic customers who asked for a Twin Star to accompany their Diamond Star product.
Those who have purchased the DA-40 Diamond Star XLS product will find little problem slipping behind the stick of this fantastic light aircraft. The aircraft shares a similar cockpit layout with the Diamond Star making transition an easy and painless process.
Those who haven’t had the enjoyment of the DA-40 will still find the Twin Star to be an enjoyable aircraft, easy to fly and forgiving for the pilot.
With fantastic fuel consumption and range, this aircraft is perfect for anything from short to long distance trips!
Features:
- A superb soundset from IRIS AudioworX with 360 degree sound panning customised specifically for FSX.
- All new 3D gauges and customised G1000 for the DA-42.
- Three visual models covering the TDI, MPP and new UAV variants of the Twin Star.
- A superb flight model for the light handling of the DA-42 aircraft developed by Jade Island Flight Test Center and tested by our in-house Twin Star pilot!
- A wide variety of paintschemes and two paintkits aimed at ease of repainting by users.
- An in depth pilot handbook with all the information you need to know to operate the aircraft systems complete with instrumentation breakdown, checklists and more.

Could not disagree more with the previous review. This is a quality release just as the DA40 was. VC is excellent, crisp, great views etc. Flight dynamics are just as they are in the real DA42, light and responsive, with lots of ground effect making for a challenging landing if your speed is too high! Sounds are again, realistic, nice and throaty. To compare this with freeware is a complete joke. Great support from IRIS. Highly recommended. |

I had given up on this aircraft (reluctantly) but finally discovered the patch. Still by no means perfect but a considerable improvement, though still filled with helium. Interior graphics not convincing, exterior OK. |

The Avionics system is a great improvement over prevoius IRIS products and is in my opinion the strong suit of this offering. The sound is different, the diesel engines are a nice departure from the norm in GA. The model is not spectacular; I'd say les than the average of payware aircraft I usually purchase. However I did not buy the aircraft for show, I bought it to make longer VFR flights with the ability to get in and out of small fields, and fly faster than a Cessna single with said capabilities when necassary and to those requirements this aircraft's specs apear to fit the bill, though its not the only one. I did want to see the state of IRIS's offerings as well. I'm for the most part intrigued to see what improvements will be made, but of course I found some cons. I was shocked to see the same canopy glass loading characteristics which has plagued IRIS aircraft sin FS9; the loading of canopy internal reflective textures effectively blinds you with ugly patterns for a few seconds, then goes black to clear, also the sim hangs (skips) momentarily when switching views. I have a very high end system and I run PMDG 744, Captain sim 752/3 C130, RealAir B60, A2A Cub and B-17 and Aerosoft F-16 and they all run smoothly. There is something in IRIS's core that causes these relatively minor yet far too frequent annoyances, with this I am disappointed, it gives me the impression that I am buying the same Fs9 product line just adapted to display and "function" not necassarily up to muster in FSX. Because I bought it at a reduced price here, I am grudginly giving it 3 stars otherwise it would be two. This will likely be the last IRIS product I purchase as my system and MSFS SDK have progressed far beyond what Iris has produced here in my humble opinion. Best regards, Bruce |
