Guatemala City main airport and only airport is “La Aurora” located in the south of the city. The first landings in the field of which today sits the airport are known to be around the year 1911, the airport subsequently became an important air force base during WWII. Till today the airport is itself 3 airports in one, an Air force base, an important general aviation airport with more than 200 hangars, and the important international airport of Guatemala. Guatemala is one of the countries in Latin America with more private aircraft per capita, and as a result La Aurora airport is hub of many small and medium general aviation aircraft companies and owners. Also in commercial aviation many flights to and from Central America, North America and Europe operate out of this facility.

Recently the main terminal concluded some major renovations and expansion, making it possible for more than 20 narrow body aircraft operations at the same time. La Aurora is Central America’s third largest in terms of passenger traffic.

For this scenery we made sure that many of airport’s characteristics remain present in the simulator in order to make it as real as possible. Hundreds of hangars, and dozens of them opened, the surrounding buildings, the approaches to runway 01 and runway 19 with replicas of their atmosphere. Certainly this airport is an interesting place to visit in Central America.

  • MGGT (GUA) airport with all its buildings done with accurate detail. More than 200 hangars, air force facilities etc.
  • Surroundings extremely detailed buildings and high resolution photo satellite imagery for the area around the airport, the skyline around the east of the airport.
  • More than 300sq Kilometers of photo scenery with thousands of hand placed custom autogen
  • Mesh for the entire area of Guatemala City.
  • Static derelict DC3 and DC6 aircraft
  • High resolution ground textures for runways, taxiways, apron etc.
  • Revised land classes for surrounding photo scenery.
  • Inclusion of manual in PDF format.
  • Inclusion of charts and maps.
  • Birds (FSX)
  • Vehicle animations (FS2004) and native (FSX)
  • Excellent frame rates
  • Excellent night lighting.
  • Dozens of custom apron objects (containers, vehicles, etc).
  • Respective AFCAD for FS2004 and AFX file for FS making it fully AI traffic compatible.

This is yet another great scenery from LatinVFR. The city is located in a valley which makes it an interesting approach. The airport is well done with very modern looking main gates. It is surprisingly very active with AI aircraft (I use world of AI) -- predominantly TACA but also major US airlines.

Following my warning about the installer - there IS a way to install this safely. Just make a new folder and point the installer to it. Then copy and paste the folders to their relevant places in FSX. Then activate it in the scenery library. I couldn't be bothered though. I am waiting to hear from LatinVFR's support staff on this. Possibly a new installer is in the works.

FSX Installer doesn't know where FSX is. Even if you point it manually, it doesn't extract the contents of the folders to the correct places. I also installs a folder named "FS2004 Uninstaller" in the directory you aim it to! I realized this problem when going to activate the scenery (yes, you must do this yourself - this installer is antique - made before the release of FSX). Be careful! If I went any further and applied the patches provided, it could have cost many many hours of frustration cleaning up a corrupt FSX!

This is a really nice scenery. It has no impact on FPS at all. Very nice and very recomendable. Details are pretty good, even though there could be a little more.
Thanks again for a wonderful scenery

Overall a very nice product, with great scenerie around the
airport. The rwy and taxiway are really nice done.
The huge downfall is that it´s too FPS hungry.
I Get even better FPS in Forth Worth Dallas, by you know....
