Latin VFR: La Paz Bolivia “El Alto”

Bolivia’s main city is La Paz, and is presently the administrative seat of government. The metropolitan area has more than 2.4 million people. Its only airport is called “ El Alto” named after the town of the same name which is perhaps named after the elevation of this town which is more than 4050 meters above sea level in comparison with the city of La Paz which sits at 3600 meters.

La Paz “El Alto” International Airport is currently one of the highest commercial airports in the world because of its airfield altitude of 4058 meters (13225 feet) above sea level it’s a very complex and difficult airport to operate to/from. The runway allows compensating a bit of the altitude because it has a 4000 meter runway, nonetheless flights farther to the north than Lima Peru are not common since weight restrictions and the possibility of running short of runway makes it impossible because of the height of the airport. Currently aircraft manufacturers test their new aircraft in El Alto so that they can test aircraft performance in high altitude airports.

We made it possible to recreate El Alto airport, the city and surroundings for the highest level of reality.
