Toncontin Airport doesn’t need an introduction. You say the word “Toncontin” immediately the image of an aircraft narrowly crashing with bushes and buildings come up to your mind. This Honduran airport was opened in 1920 in the capital city of Tegucigalpa. It is one of the oldest airports in Central America and one of the oldest constant operations in the world. The airport was officially inaugurated in 1933 with the arrival of the DC3 By the 1980’s airlines preferred the San Pedro Sula airport because it offered a less ‘dangerous’ and more comfortable (space) ambient for aircraft and passenger operations. Many accidents have happened in this airport but it is mainly because of its difficult approach, consisting of elevated terrain in all quadrants of the airfield. We have made this airport to be Circa 2006, so that the renovations of the runway that occurred after 2007 until this date are not displayed, since it takes a way the most treasured knowledge of this airport and its unique ‘approach’, compared mostly with that of Kaitak and others, but this one is more special due to the fact that the airport sits at more than 3000 feet above sea level, and has a runway of roughly 6000 feet of length.

Comprised within the package the main features are the Tegucigalpa’s Toncontin (MHTG or TGU) airport, and the city of Tegucigalpa photo realistic.

Package highlights:

  • Airport buildings and terminals completely designed with the most accurate attention to detail.
  • Special attention to the approach path making it completely realistic as possible (circa year 2006)
  • All surroundings completely modeled accurately.
  • Thousands of hand placed auto-generated scenery for all of the photo-scenery area.
  • Photo realistic ground textures for the area of Tegucigalpa.
  • Photo-realistic textures in the buildings.
  • SRTM Mesh for the entire region of Southern Honduras. (compatible with other mesh)
  • Excellent night effects.
  • Fully AI compatible, with their respective AFCAD for FS2004 and FSX.
  • Excellent frame rates
  • Numerous static objects, pushback trucks, stairs, containers, etc.
  • Custom vehicle traffic and animations.

simFlight.COM Flight Simulation News Source » Blog Archive » Review: LatinVFR’s Toncontín Intl. Airport "LatinVFR’s Toncontín intl. airport is a very nice scenery. It really aims to recreate the experience of landing at this airport. Most of the texturing is very nice, but the modelling is a bit rough around the edges. Do note that this is one of the earliest sceneries that LatinVFR produced, and as such we can’t expect it to be up to the standards of the airports they release now. Considering the fun had when landing here, the good textures, the coverage of the photoscenery, it is my opinion that the price of almost €18, for which you get both FSX and FS2004 versions, is absolutely more than fair. If you want another fun, interesting and very challenging approach, than Toncontín is for you!"

This scenery is without a doubt the best available in the entire region to date. Incredible attention to detail, absolutely little to no effect on frame rates, it's the perfect modern day Kai Tak finally done justice.
Thank-You LatinVFR!
