Finally as of 5/5/06 FS2k4 now has a full VC clickable A320 series (let’s see FS2k4 was released back in 03). The A320 series is the best yet seen in FS2k4 with a VC that rivals or should I say is better than anything before it (PSS’s version was never clickable). This package truly ushers in a period that has been long neglected from Flight Simulator and that is the A320. PSS was the last developer to take a real stab at the look of these Airbuses both inside and out. The flight dynamics need an update as the Airbuses seem to get too much lift from full flaps reducing your approach speed to around 110 knots (very unrealistic). They need no mess with the induced drag of these birds as these aircraft properly slow down during decent as they should with zero flaps. You just may have flashbacks of your STOL aircraft add-ons when on approach with full flaps. Other than that the FDE’s are great for a ‘lite’ package (here’s hoping for an update to a small problem).
Once again this is a 'lite' package meaning none of these aircraft are hard core. The only downside to all the aircraft modeled here is the limited number of included repaints. Liveries seem to center around Asia with the exception of Air Canada and British Airways among a few others. Luckily we have a few A320 fans out there to offer up some freeware repaint options. As of this writing I don’t know about the other aircraft in this package.
I may be writing this review from the bottom up but I had to focus on the Airbuses included in this package. The other aircraft are not as good in my opinion. I actually uninstalled everything but the A320 series. With the exception of the A300, all other aircraft in this package have terrible VC's (but all VC’s by contrast have great night lighting). The external models are great but the 777, 767, and 737 are at the bottom of the list for me. The 747 is a little better but not much more will you find here from the default version. You do get a great external model so I have to admit it's a better option than the default plus like I said above you have VC night lighting. The A330/340 is somewhat the same model as the CLS A340 with different gauges and a few options left out (tow truck, etc). As with the A320 series, the A330/340 models have great VC's (on the same level as the A320 series). The MD11 is the same freeware version we all have seen. You need sounds for this package and Des Braban is your best option for freeware A320 sounds (with other aircraft models us your discretion).
I don’t have too much to say about the A380 although that seems to be the selling point of this package. The A380 is too new to effectively model correctly even it you were doing a ‘lite’ package (note the date of this review). For what it’s worth Overland did a decent job here even if it’s not my cup of tea. If I ever go for an A380 the package would have to be hardcore meaning realistically done inside and out.
I focused allot on the visuals of this package because with ‘lite’ aircraft a package must make up visually what it lacks technically… This package hit’s it with a couple of aircraft I know people will like. Therefore I'm giving this product the highest marks because of the outstanding job done on the A320 series in particular. No other version produced with the exception of PSS has done a better job. That alone deserves
