VFR Appalachia is first in our series of highly detailed east coast USA airports meant for pilots who prefer to fly the mid-Atlantic region. As the product title suggests, our aim was to recreate real-world airports in P3Dv4 for those who prefer low and slow short hops between airports. The eight airports in this series were developed from our on-site visits and birds-eye-view shots from our pilot - Jay, so what is rendered in P3Dv4 is what was captured realistically from real-world.

VFR Appalachia comprises:

  1. Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport/Shepherd Field (KMRB), West Virginia
  2. Cheat River (WV31), West Virginia
  3. Front Royal (KFRR), Virginia
  4. New Market (8W2), Virginia
  5. Moran Field (MD99), Maryland
  6. Seven Springs Borough (7SP), Pennsylvania
  7. Nemacolin Resort (PA88), Pennsylvania
  8. Ingalls Field (KHSP), Virginia

Except for Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport (KMRB) which has a newly commissioned 9000ft runway and military apron/tarmac area, all others have anywhere from 2600 to over 5,600ft runways capable of handling sport and light singles to medium multiengine aircraft. From the eight, three airports - WV31, MD99, and 7SP - are either decommissioned or are in the process of being decommissioned for some reason or other. WV31 for example, does not exist anymore, however the field's outline can still be seen from Google satellite pictures. Although the three airports are non-active in the real-world, we thought it prudent to reflect them, not only for tribute sake, but for their distinct locations and peculiar challenges they present. MD99 and 7SP are renowned for stiff wind gusts, unpredictable cross-wind deviations and sporadic microburst because both are located on plateaus at over 2000ft. WV31 on the other hand, has challenging approaches from either airport runway directions due to mountain ranges and hills on both sides of approach, including man-made obstacles, which keeps the pilot extraordinarily vigilant during approach. Not to mention hazardous fog at different phases of the day which can be fatally unforgiving during approach or whenever flying below established minimum standards in the Cheat River valley area.

REQUIREMENTS

VFR Appalachia was developed on a high-end system but tested in low to medium-end system using both Win 10, WinXP, Vista and Win7 platforms with medium to high-end graphic cards. Specific requirements include:

P3Dv4

RECOMMENDED P3DV4 SETTINGS

Frame rates from scenery complexity and autogen settings were averaged at 28fps or higher. This includes moving sliders 100% to the right. Lower settings yielded much higher frames, but our recommendation is Dense to Extreme Dense for exceptional rates. To enjoy scenery fully, especially mesh and photoreal landclass, it is recommended to set Mesh Complexity at 100%, Mesh Resolution at 1m, and Texture Resolution at 7cm. In other words, all three should be 100% set to the right on the slider. To retain/gain fps, move Water Effects slider to High 2x. If system can afford extra fps, set to Max 2x.

AI Traffic should be set at 30% or lower for exceptional fluidity as well. Road traffic should be set at 20% or less, although there won't be much need for dense AI and Road traffic in rural VFR Appalachia.

LCSim's WV 4m mesh, ensure to have the former reside/layered lower than the latter mesh within P3Dv4 Scenery Library setting.

DRZEWIECKI DESIGN - NY AIRPORTS V2 X : KJFK, KLGA, KTEB FSX P3D
Joseph DePaola
Drzewiecki Design have done an excellent job with their latest installments. The visuals are great for being FPS friendly and the ground modeling is absolutely superb. Almost everything about these packs is on point with what NY airports have! This was very much needed in the FS community and I'm elated Drzewiecki Design answered the call with this product.

I owned the previous version of KEWR and I can say the difference between V1 and V2 is night and day. The performance seems much smoother and flying into EWR is finally possible. The airport isn't the most detailed, but at this price point I won't complain. They did include the IKEA which is nice! Anyone familiar with EWR knows the IKEA! One quirk I found with KEWR is that traffic always seems to be using only runway 29 for takeoffs and landings which doesn't happen at Newark. I was also a bit let down realizing that only the jetways at Terminals A and B are animated, terminal C is stuck with static jetways that don't move. Again, a little disappointing considering terminal C is the United Terminal. All in all, it's a great representation of Newark Airport, I would recommend it.
LATINVFR - MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT KMIA V3 FSX P3D

Excellent rendition, had v1 installed in FSX but the v3 is a great leap forward! love the autogen on the west, coming in for arrival 09. The surrounding area is awesome and the airport is top notch! recommend!

Superb details, right on the needed quality/perform-
ance ratio for such a performance intensive section of FS, clearly the heaviest in the FS world. On my FSX steam I have top notch performance using the NGX and the PMDG777 at JFK. Even with most things maxed out I get better FPS than the other competitor's JFK. Managed to do some GA flights out of KTEB and looking at mid town manhattan no FPS hit. Clearly an excellent addon!

I owned the previous version of NY Airports and was very happy with the quality. I'm a real life pilot based out of KCDW so attention to detail was paramount. Now I have V2 for PD3v4 and I couldn't be happier. The frame rates are awesome, the detail is gorgeous, and the night lighting is really something else. You can even see the name of the flight school I work for on the side of the building at Caldwell! You won't get FlyTampa detail at KEWR, but you'll get a seriously good contender for the price. And that's just it, dollar for dollar this is a great addon for anyone who likes GA airports in the tri-state area and wants a major step up from the default big airports. I continue to be impressed by Drzewiecki Design.

For what it is advertised as 5/5. 3 Airports done very well for a light version and they are full of life with plenty of static visuals around. The most up to date KJFK and even has the taxi bridges 3D modeled, not flat 2D graphics!
CAPTAIN SIM - 777-300 EXPANSION MODELS FSX P3D
Joel Harty
This is a great aircraft for anyone wanting to learn the 777 in the virtual skies of flight simulator. Most aspects of the flight deck are modeled and clickable, with an accurate FMC. Detail of textures is great and the aircraft handles as expected. Whilst not of the same study level detail as the PMDG 777, this is a great, albeit cheaper alternative! Why not 5 stars? Well the night texture/lightin-
g in P3D v3 requires some work (very bright or too dark), as do the external lights. Some of the sounds both inside and outside the VC don't appear as realistic as they could be. Other than that, the Captain Sim 777 is a good all round aircraft!

Nice product, not bad performance wise but there is a huge problem with the runway lights, they pop out from the ground in a triangular shape, see the first picture bottom right. Actually rwy lights need to fixed, it's very unrealistic. J-
FK CRI arrival leading lights are a big plus. Otherwis-
e runway lights during night time are awful, hope for a fix.
JUSTSIM - INNSBRUCK AIRPORT AUSTRIA - LOWI FSX P3D
TS Brady
The scenery is only so-so. Lots of imperfections like trees having light blue outlines when you're at ground level (3 stars). I bought the scenery 2 months ago and now they expect me to pay again for a P3D4 installer. Unacceptable (2 stars)!
FABIO MERLO - FLIGHTCONTROLREPLAY PROFESSIONAL EDITION FSX P3D
Jakub Huck-Milbrat
I'm terribly disappointed, money thrown at the trash, as for me. During replay, sitting sound, movie once accelerated, once it slows down, DRAMA, TRAGEDY!!!
