FS2004 |
- It was world record holder in speed (mach 3.31).
- It operated in altitudes which weren't even believed by air traffic controllers guiding the aircraft.
- Pilot: Radar, Good Day, Airforce Blackbird, request FL 600
Controller (with a chuckle): Sir, if you can reach, you are cleared FL 600 Pilot: US Air Force Blackbird, leaving FL 800, decending Level 600
- It set the altitude record in horizontal flight when it flew at 85069ft in July 1976.
- It is powered by two Pratt&Whittney J-58 turbojet engines. In fact, the aircraft was designed and built "around" them.
- Although it flew three times the speed of sound, jet engines can only operate by taking in air, which is subsonic. The spikes at the front of the engine are designed to slow down the air.
- Its fuel is JP-7, which is low volatile Jet Propellant Type 7, to allow the SR71 to fly in the heat generated by its speed. This fuel is ignited by reaction with triethyl borane, which on the other hand is so volatile, that it will ignite spontaneously in plain air!
You see, the SR71 is an aircraft with attitude! And you can operate it now within your FS2004 environment!
Main features:
- Fully working Afterburners with modelled FX file for exact looks
- The aircraft leaks on the ground ... check at screenshots! Again we have designed a special FX file to get that to work. Watch the puddle grow beneath the aircraft!
- Moving Spikes according to speed. Engine Spikes move in when speed increases ...
- Animated exhaust
- Animated pilots
- Animated cockpitdoors
- Animated realistic drag-chute for brakeing
- functional 2D panel (enhanced for Online Flying and fully mouse usable!)
- functional animated VC
- prepared for future feature upgrades (such as, but not limited to inflight refueling, fuel dump, etc)
- realistic startup sounds
- sounds differ inside - outside the aircraft
- comes in several liveries - register your serial number and get even more liveries!
- designed to fly at mach 3.3 and FL 850

Wow! Everything about this addon is awsome. The amount of detail lacks nothing. Sit out on the arpon on Edwards in the evening all quiet and watch the fuel actually drip from the aircraft and make puddles, then light those after burners and man you are off, way up into the fringes of space. Great VC Cockpit and 2d panel. Be careful though this baby takes a while to slow down from flying at mach 3.5, but come in for a nice landing and punch the drag chute"awsome animations on deployment". Great ocerall aircraft to get. |

AWESOME!!! If you're a Blackbird fan this is a must have. If not, get it anyway so you can experience flying really fast and really high. I've had this over 90,000 feet flying over Mach 3. It is a great example of seeing how speed is translated when flying really high. At 80,000 feet for example, your ground speed will only be several hundred miles per hour, but your Mach number will be high (over 3). I have even replicated it's famed flight from Los Angeles to New York. Amazing flying across the states in barely an hour. Try that in the Cessna. The flight model is beautiful. The leaking fuel on the ground is great. As far as the panel goes I will have to agree with the other reviews. The 2D does look cartoony, or not authentic. However, it does look good, for what it is, and it offers so much. Virtually all the buttons are usable and the features are nice. I highly recommend this add-on. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. It's worth every penny of the price. I should have bought it sooner. If you're looking, quit. Just buy it and be off into the wild blue yonder. |

The best SR71 out there. Get it and enjoy life at FL900 at mach 3. A realistic start-up procedure is the only thing missing from this package. |

Pretty much what all the reviewers mentioned above. For the sound package issue, I just aliased my new IRIS Simulation's F-14A Tomcat sound package. It's easy to do. You know when the AB's kick in on that baby. :-) I also added the Sonic Boom effects files from the Carrier Operation Package V2.0 (rcbco-20.zip) off of AVSIM. Now I can see and hear it when I go through the sound barrier. :-) Drives my dog crazy.... It's LOUD now guys and gals..... Should have bought this SR-71 sooner, as I'm having to much fun with it. :-) |

Outstanding visual model. Quite superior to Alphasim's. Excellent closeup detail. The VC and 2d panels are also superior to Alphasim's, but neither is exceptional. I found the sounds to be a bit disappointing, but an excellent freeware sound package is available. Physics are believable. Undoubtedly, the best SR71 out there. |
