This package is a revision of the first high detail New Zealand mesh that was released four years ago, in 2001. The detail has been further increased to 0.9 arcsec (about 20 m), making this the best ever New Zealand mesh released. This mesh turns the landscapes of Microsoft Flight Simulator into an all new fun experience.
This mesh is of top quality in terms of accuracy and detail, being built from highly detailed commercial elevation data provided by GeographX Ltd. The original 1:25,000 data set was assembled by Land Information New Zealand (LINZ), who is the national mapping authority. The data has a vertical accuracy of about 20 m and a horizontal accuracy of about 10 m. This means that this scenery has an abundance of detail while also being extremely accurate. Additionally, the LINZ data has been completely scanned for errors (e.g., sink holes and spikes) and over a hundred mistakes have been found and removed. The final output has been scanned for errors again to ensure the highest degree of quality possible.
This commercial mesh comes in two different resolutions: 40 m, and 20 m, which add an amazing amount of extra detail compared to the freeware version. Flying within the higher resolution meshes, and especially the 20 m mesh, is absolutely breath-taking and almost gives the impression of actually being there. The higher resolution meshes are made available for a fair price, given the efforts that have gone into creating this high quality add-on, and the enjoyment those meshes will bring to the home PC.
This mesh scenery is compatible with FS2002 and FS2004. The mesh will also run without any problems with FS2000, but this is not officially supported.
This mesh does not require the latest computer system for acceptable frame rates. The recommended system specifications are: 2GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, a mid-range graphics card (e.g., Nvidia Geforce 4 Ti), and 550 MB of uncompressed hard disk space.
New Zealand is a perfect place for a high detail add-on mesh. Located right at the boundary of the Pacific plate, New Zealand has mountain ranges all over the country with the highest elevation being over 3700 m (12,000 ft). New Zealand also features a large volcanic area including several active volcanoes and some of the world’s steepest mountain sides in the Fiordland National Park.
