MSFS Topo Scenery for New Zealand
For the first time in the history of Microsoft Flight Simulator, a scenery package is introduced that will turn New Zealand into a highly accurate and visually stunning representation of reality. This package has been in preparation for over three years and will create in MSFS a model that looks almost as amazing as New Zealand itself does. Virtual flying will never be the same.
This package uses commercial data to define water bodies at high resolution, to map an extensive and detailed road map, and much much more.
Not many places in the world are as suitable for this kind of scenery than New Zealand - the place that stunned millions of movie goers by its raw, natural beauty in the blockbuster hit Lord of the Rings. Volcanic islands and islets, beautiful fiords and sounds, snow covered mountains including glaciers. Curving roads along mountain slopes, fields of crater lakes, airstrips in locations that make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. There isn't much you could ask for that isn't in this package.
Included in this package are all new water body definitions - coastlines, lakes, islands, rivers, and canals - at very high resolution. Some of the lakes and islands are just one pixel small (about 15 sqm). The road and railroad network reflects the existing roads and railroads, including tunnels and bridges to a very high degree (there are about 10,000 bridges in total!). Roads and rivers now accurately follow the terrain and if you own the 20 m mesh you will be blown away by the detail. But the scenery doesn't stop here. Included are all mapped airstrips (more than 3,500!), not only including exotic locations like Quintin (in between the steep mountain sides of Fiordland) and Tarawera (on top of an active volcano), but also glider strips, and strips that only get used by farmers who own them. Furthermore, common landmarks that are often used for VFR flying, such as golf courses, race tracks, sports fields, power pylons, antenna masts, power stations, wind farms, and factories are included. This is not a small selection that covers only small parts of New Zealand, but everything mapped is included and the whole of New Zealand is covered. You can follow power pylon tracks for hours, or get acquainted with the antenna masts around your favourite airport. The amount of realism these extra little details add can't be justified in screenshots, it just makes places like Wellington so much more realistic.
As with the mesh, this scenery is of high quality in terms of accuracy and detail, and is based on commercial data provided by GeographX Ltd. This scenery has an abundance of detail while also being very accurate. The data has been inspected for errors, and some have been found and removed. Unlike elevation data, topographical data changes quickly, and there will be a small number of places where especially the man made structures don't reflect the existing reality 100% - but this is a problem with all maps (as soon as they are printed, they are basically outdated). This scenery reflects the reality to the highest degree of quality possible within reasonable limits.
If you think the 20 m mesh was amazing, then be ready to be shocked by the new detail this scenery delivers. Even more so than the high resolution meshes, this high quality add-on will bring hours and hours of enjoyment to the home PC. Whether you want to explore an unfamiliar, but beautiful country, explore your home country at high detail from the air (and find the street you live in), or use FS2004 as a training tool to familiarise yourself with your surroundings for actual real flying, this package will deliver. |
