Victoria - Australia's Garden State
Welcome to Australia's southernmost mainland state Victoria, and its capital Melbourne. Victoria has a wild history of adventures involving gold mining and bush rangers. The two biggest gold nuggets in the world were both found in Victoria, and Ned Kelly and his gang have featured in many movies (even Mick Jagger portrayed Ned in 1970).
Today, Victoria is a much tamer place and Melbourne is often voted to be one of the most livable cities in the world. One of the top three tourist locations in Australia can be found in Victoria - the magnificent Great Ocean Road. You can find 36 national parks in Victoria, the scenery ranges from rugged alpine forests, over ancient volcanic plains, world famous vineyards, rugged coastlines, and beautiful beaches, to hot and barren deserts. A whopping 36% of Victoria is covered in forest and 17% of it's total area is protected. The scenery in Victoria keeps changing and just like in the old times, adventures are around every corner. Victoria truly is a winner, what a place to visit as a virtual pilot!
A road network as real as it can be
Roads & Rivers includes all mapped roads in Victoria, this means you get thousands and thousands of roads and they all look like their real counterpart. Also included are an amazing number of dirt roads and the complete set of railways, including Melbourne 's extensive commuter train network.
No more simplified grey bands stretching sparingly over dull landscapes. This addon gives you the extraordinary sense of a real place, roads weaving along rugged mountains, roads following the coast and along rivers in a realistic fashion, roads simply all over the place – this is Victoria's true road network.
Also included are thousands of bridges; if a road crosses a river, there will be a bridge. You can follow the famous Great Ocean Road as it realistically winds its way along the magnificent coastline. You will even be able to identify the F1 Albert Park road course and the SBK Phillip Island track. Say goodbye to the poor basic set of roads in MSFS and get Victoria 's real transport network in Roads & Rivers.
Rivers and Lakes stunningly beautiful
You've seen the uninspiring streams and crude lakes in MSFS. Roads & Rivers is here to change all that and breathe life into Victoria's water world. Watch the Yarra River wind its way through Melbourne and experience the mighty Murray River in its true beauty. Rivers won't look like straight, uninspiring streams anymore, but they will wind their way through the terrain snakelike in very realistic fashion. With Roads & Rivers they will simply look alive. And to complement the major rivers, we have also included the minor streams to make Victoria even more life-like.
Gone are the days where lakes looked like big ugly blobs. Roads & Rivers gives you intricate lake systems that look just like the real thing. You can visit the remarkable volcanic plains and the astounding network of little crater lakes. Or you can visit the Australian Alps and the picturesque alpine lakes.
Seaplane pilots don't have to put up with uninspiring flights anymore, but have the whole of Victoria to explore for scenic beauty around every corner. Even if you're not a seaplane pilot, flying at dusk and seeing the sun reflecting in this new inland water environment is truly magical!
Coastlines rugged and gorgeous
The coasts in MSFS looks like a straight plain band between land and water. With Roads & Rivers you get the real life ruggedness of realistic coastlines including spectacular island networks that match the real thing. Visit Wilson's Prom, Mornington Peninsula, the Gippsland Lakes, or Cape Campbell – all famous coastal National Parks of pristine beauty. Or fly along the gorgeous Ninety Mile Beach, the second longest uninterrupted beach in the world. The realism of the coastal areas will amaze you. And to top it off, with our new coastlines the dramatic Great Ocean Road will match the beauty of the real thing. Find out why millions of Australians visit this place each year!
400 more places to land your aircraft
You know the airports that come with MSFS and VOZ. However, Victoria has many more airstrips, owned by farmers, tourist operators, and other private entities. These airstrips are usually not accessible to the public, but with Roads & Rivers you can visit them all. Like their real world counterparts, these airstrips aren't mapped, so you will have to go exploring and try to find them yourself (we provide a location map here: vic_airstrip_map.zip). Our little airstrips are modelled as grass strips and they do follow the undulating terrain for an extra challenge. With Roads & Rivers you can visit places you never could fly to before and experience the ultimate adventure of being a true bush pilot!
Power lines, golf courses, sports fields and broadcasting masts
Roads & Rivers also includes all mapped power lines, about 300 golf courses, about 2000 sports fields, and about 200 broadcasting masts. The golf courses along the Yarra give Melbourne a much more realistic and less synthetic feel. Getting lost is much harder, as you can readily recognize nearby gold courses or sports fields and match them to your maps. The radio and TV broadcasting masts match their counterparts in height, so you can learn how to avoid them in bad weather. All this extra detail really makes Melbourne and Victoria come alive - very alive.
Simply the very best quality
With Roads & Rivers you can trust that you are getting the best of the best. We used very high quality commercial data, the same data is relied on by commercial operators for crucial tasks such as bush fire control and emergency services.
The quality over FS2004 is hundredfold. Even compared to FSX our data is at least five times better, and our road coverage is still a hundred times better. What this means for you is that the minute you install Roads & Rivers you will be blown away by all the new scenery. Suddenly Victoria looks like a real place, not just a crude computer model.
The good news is the Roads & Rivers is fully compatible with VOZ. And we're working hard on a free patch that will make it fully compatible with FSX also. Whether you ever wanted to fly over a real looking Victoria , or simply want to play virtual tourist and explore a beautiful place, Roads & Rivers will give you hours and hours of enjoyment, that is our promise! |
