What's New?
This new version of the RealAir SF260 is brimming with innovative new features, these features include:
• Visible and audible pre and post stall buffeting.
• An advanced version of RealView, simulating the g effects experienced by pilots in-flight.
• Wing-tip vortices that are independent for each wing.
• Realistic engine torque effects.
• Crystal clear VC gauges with perfectly smooth movement (no more stuttering VC gauges).
• Refinements to the SF260’s already acclaimed aerodynamics.
• A pilot whose head always look in the direction of flight.
• The pilot also scans the sky, keeping an eye out for traffic.
• Three new civilian liveries.
• All VC switches and levers can be clicked on and manipulated
• New controls have been added to the VC including pitch trim, park-brake and fuel cut-off
• A magnetic compass that moves more realistically than ever before, appearing to be suspended in liquid.
What we haven’t changed
This latest release of the RealAir SF260 is not an all-new version. All-in-all our SF260 customers were very happy with the SF260 as it stood before this update, but with the extremely positive feedback our smooth gauge technology received when first seen in our Spitfire XIV, we decided that our long-running SF260 would benefit greatly from this gauge technology.

So this version uses the same exterior 3D model as our previous SF260 releases with some changes made to animations only (plus three new liveries). The VC 3D model is also closely based on the previous version’s 3D model. This has allowed our small development team to remain focused on future aircraft releases while giving you, our customer, an improved version of what we hope is one of your favourite FS2004 aircraft.
Flying the SF260.
The challenge when designing this aircraft was not only to create an aerobatic, lively and highly entertaining machine, but to also make sure this SF260 was completely smooth, controllable and able to cruise superbly well. We have gone to much trouble to ensure that this aircraft is not only light to the touch and great fun to fly, just like the real SF260, but also capable of great finesse and subtlety. You will find the controls very responsive, but at the same time allowing a very fine degree of control to be applied to all stages of flight. You can set a precise climb speed with trim, and this aircraft will hold that speed exactly, from 100 to 12,000 ft or so. Conversely, this aircraft is also capable of rolling at 120 degrees per second at high speed, and looping at up to 6 positive G.
Spinning is one of the most satisfying manoeuvres, and we are very proud to have made an aircraft with the capability of spinning properly. To us, this means the aircraft must be able to autorotate, without increasing airspeed, by stalling then applying full rudder.
Apart from aerobatics, the SF260 is capable of cruising at up to 182 KT on its single, naturally aspirated Lycoming IO-540, climbing at up to 1,800 FPM, while also providing a highly stable and controllable platform during all phases of IFR flight. The SF.260 has been so successful at fulfilling the above criteria, that it is now being used in the flight-training role.
RealAir SF260 2005 Feature List

Exterior Model: Included are eight liveries including five civillian and three military schemes. All liveries come with high resolution graphics showing lots of detail plus a multitude of custom animations.

Virtual Cockpit: The 2005 SF260's virtual cockpit gauges are visually clearer and smoother in movement than even the best FS2004 2D gauges. Almost all gauges and levers are controllable with the mouse. All eight liveries included in this package have their own individually textured VCs.

Effects: Visual effects include wingtip vortices, startup smoke, and airshow display smoke.

Documents: Included is a a detailed 'Flying Guide' that includes flying and setup help, and a 'Pilot's Reference' featuring operating procedures.

Config Wizard: A stand-alone wizard-style application for setting various RealAir SF260 preferences, such as default RealView settings and graphics quality settings.

Flight Modeling: All the usual RealAir capabilities are there including spinning and side slipping, realistic aerobatics capablity plus stable cruising for touring or IFR flight. The 2005 SF260 flight model has been refined over previous releases.

RealView: A feature that simulates the g-force experienced by a pilot in-flight. RealView is completely smooth in operation and does not create unpleasant side effects when performing extreme manoeuvres. A new RealView control panel allows you to separately adjust the magnitude of pitch, yaw and stall buffet movements.

Sounds: The RealAir SF260 includes high-quality custom stereo sounds delivering a dynamic acoustic experience. In addition to vibrant engine, startup and shutdown sounds are other sound effects including stall buffet, dynamic wind noise and canopy sounds.

Normally I'm not into planes like this. I'm more used to medium to heavy jetliners. But lets put it this way, I didn't realise what I was missing out on until I bought this package a couple of weeks back. It is fantastic in every way, and a lot of fun to fly. I can't wait for my GCSE exams to finish so I can take this for some serious flying! Great job RealAir! |

Hi folks. Never flew such a wonderfull plane in FS! It's a whole different feeling than all(!) other planes I flew before in FS. A long time I only flew this heavy iron such as Airbus,ATR and Boeing. This thing here made me change my mind and finally I got a small airplane lover! My next purchase after this one here was the RealAir Spitfire wich I can also highly recommend, like this wonderful masterpiece here. Nice greetings from Germany ! |

The already class-leading RealAir SF260 has been updated, and if it was not already the finest small aircraft available for FS2004, it surely is now. The VC is out of this world, being clearer than most 2D panels, yet no harder on frame rate. The now fully animated pilot operates the controls, looks where the aircraft is flying, and scans the skies and panel regularly, in a lifelike manner. Extra skins are included, along with all those in the earlier version, and the texturing is pin-sharp and detailed. Rob Young's flight model is better than ever, making all sorts of aerobatic manoeuvers possible, as well as pushing the realism of the general flying experience through the roof. What's not to like about this aircraft? Nothing. If you only ever purchase one add-on aircraft for Flight Simulator, make it this one. It will repay you with many many hours of flying fun. |
