Sandspit Airport is one of the most popular stopover airfields located in the Queen Charlotte Island chain of British Columbia. Many pilots choose Sandspit as a refueling stop while making a long trip from the mainland United.States to Alaska. Sandspit is not just an airport - The town of Sandspit is the largest community on Moresby Island. The unincorporated community had a population of 538 persons as of the 2001 census report.

Sandspit is also known as the gateway to Canada's Galapagos, Haida Gwaii, Queen Charlotte Islands. Sandspit's history goes back to at least one ancient Haida Village, Kil, which was situated east of Haans Creek. The first settlers at Sandspit established farms and ranches around the grassy flats, but there is only scant evidence of their homesteads and past presence today.

Masset Municipal Airport, which lies about 50 miles to the north, is also included In this release.
