Description

The -535 is a highly successful member of the Rolls Royce RB211 family of three-shaft turbofans.

Its first version, the -535C, was launch engine for the Boeing 757 and entered service in 1983 as the first non-US engine to launch a Boeing civil aircraft. An advanced version, the higher-thrust -535E4, features extensive use of advanced computer-designed aerodynamics, particularly in its wide-chord fan.

The -535E4 has the lowest combination of in-flight shutdown rate and shop visit rate in the airline industry, a factor that has resulted in the -535E4 being the airlines first choice to power the 757. The -535E4 achieved the world record for on-wing life without removal for over 40,000 hours over nine years in operation. It stays on wing almost twice as long as any other engine on the airframe.

-535E4s have considerable experience of ETOPS operation, with 20 airlines having achieved 120 or 180 minutes ETOPS approval.

The -535E4-powered Boeing 757 is the quietest airliner in its class, meeting FAR Stage 3 limits with a large margin, allowing it to power aircraft in and out of airports with strict local noise limits. The -535E4 is an alternative engine for the Tupolev Tu 204 and is the first western engine to enter service on a Russian aircraft.
