Since 1991 the high speed ICE (Inter City Express) trains are a regular sight on the German and other European routes. Development started in 1985 with an experimental version that set a new record of 315 km/h on a German test track. The futuristic styling and striking livery made the trains rival the French TGV and by now the trains transport tens of thousands of people every day between major city centers in Germany, Holland, Austria and Switzerland.
But high speed trains have a long history and this package shows the whole history from the beginning of the previous century with one of the fastest steam locomotive's of its days, the Gattung P10. With a top speed of 110 km/h it was the fastest form of transport in its day.
The next train in this package is the 103, a strong workhorse that came into service in the early 70's and was the standard electrical loc for the German railroads. With a topspeed of 200 km/h and a interesting control system, you will like this locomotive.
The ICE 2 is a modern high speed train used on German routes at this moment. With top speeds over 280 km/h on special tracks it is a real strong contender in the race between high speed trains. Solid and reliable it is in service for many years. The completely digital control system will take some getting used to, but is real nice to use!
