When Rio de Janeiro/SBGL was first released, by June 2007, that was a perfect work for both FS9 and FSX-sp1. We were very happy that besides being a big, huge, detailed and complex airport it was working nice and smooth with high frame rates, as rate by various reviews. Soon it became our most ordered scenery, bringing to thousands of users all the pleasure that only a flight to Rio can offer.
With the release of Acceleration/SP-2 some thing went wrong and what was working nice before became problematic, due to some broken funcionality SP-2 brought into scene. For FS9 and FSX/SP-1 users nothing changed and the scenery continued to be enjoyable at its most.
FSX/sp-2 users faced some problems, including severe frame problems.
On a scenery of this magnitude, it could not be only a matter of just fixing somethings and releasing some update for FSX/SP-2. We needed to do something bigger and more complex for our users.
So, here it is. The new version of Rio de Janeiro/SBGL FSX/SP-2 for you all. The scenery was completely re-assembled from scratch, recompiled under FSX/SP-2 SDK, enhanced with new files and objects, received a new ground work, new realistic ALS macros, became free of any ancient codes and was fully tested.
No more issues nor low frames for FSX/SP-2 users.
This version is based on re-done source code, including different compiling language. The graphical changes has been few, mainly the custom runways, redone taxiway edge and runway edge night lighting along with extra static objets on the airport which can be easily removed by the user if static objects is not to his preferrence.
This pack brings the new version for FSX/SP-2 and the same FS9 version released before, as for FS9 nothing changed. |

I had already bought Worldsceneries "Wonderful Rio" and was really disappointed with it, so when I saw that Aerosoft had added AES to this (and Tropicalsim Sao Paulo Congonhas)I bought it. Much better airport that "Rio": much more detail in building and other textures, much more eye-candy, better physical integration with the surrounding landscape and traffic!!! - something sorely missed from the "Rio" package. If you already have the "Rio" scenery, remove SBGL from it and you get the best of both worlds: the fotoscenery and Santos Dumont from "Rio" and a much better SBGL from Tropicalsim. Tropicalsim sceneries are still far short of FlyTampa or FSDream but they`re getting better all the time. |

[FS2004 version] The ground textures are ok (see below), the grass textures are blurred satellite images. The buildings are well imitated but everything still reminds a bit of FS2002. The transition into the standard scenery is bad, especially striking at stand 44 where the good ground textures blend over into grainy textures below the right wing of the aircraft parking there already. Only the immediate airport grounds have been imitated, not even a car park. The island on which the airport is situated is not that big; to completely create the entire island would most likely not have been too difficult. Military and cargo aprons are partially modelled with great love for detail. No seasonal changes. The night textures also remind a bit of FS2002 and are not particularly good. Very angular ground vehicles. The stands in the AFCAD are for the greatest part just plain wrong (fortunately not in the textures), which of course creates problems with the AES-follow-me as well. No dynamic traffic. All in all, the scenery appears lifeless. No framerate problems. Full AES support available. Smooth installation. The Layout of the airport still reflects the state of 2011, but not necessarily the ground markings. Most importantly, many parking positions are missing, which, of course, complicates or even forestalls the creation of a more accurate AFCAD. Before you have to use the standard scenery, this airport is ok, especially since it really is something special in terms of its extraordinary layout and its details. The consideration is difficult: Only the most basic size of the airport grounds has been modelled, the AFCAD and the ground markings are faulty in regard to the stands, the textures are at the lower end of TropicalSim-sceneries and last but not least the price would be grossly exaggerated, would it not be for both the FS2004- and FSX-versions. Only some details and the nice overall atmosphere of the airport can mitigate things a bit. One has the impression that this scenery was created under a lot of time pressure. That is very regrettable as this destination would have deserved better. With a certain amount of good will, I award three stars as two would make the airport seem worse than it actually is. |
