REQUIREMENTS Flight Simulator: 9.1 (FS2004)

The VRS F/A-18E Super Hornet, or "Superbug", is the first  true 3-axis fly-by-wire combat aircraft designed for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The flight model is not "fly-by-wire-like", it's a dynamic, fully control-law-dependent proportional control system driving a single (ordinance independent) neutrally-statically-stable base flight model. The FBW system extends to 100% custom autopilot functions.

Crafted by a small, dedicated team of developers who also happen to be engineers in real life, the VRS F/A-18E seeks to provide what we believe is by far the most comprehensive overall simulation of ANY combat aircraft ever created for the Flight Simulator franchise. VRS has created a truly remarkable and faithful reproduction of the U.S. Navy's newest strike fighter.

Systems ranging from tactical (functioning weapons and sensors) to dedicated, custom fuel, hydraulic and ECS simulation designed [strictly] based on the U.S. Navy's NATOPS flight manuals for this aircraft. Everything from the working and accurate radar, to the early warning and navigation systems are meticulously recreated in extreme detail and fidelity.

Extensively researched visuals include a fully functional (and we mean fully functional and flyable) Virtual Cockpit including 90% 3D switches, knobs, buttons, all with, hold on to your hat, a reason for being there! True HUD collimation provides accurate velocity vector/flight path and targeting indication under all flight conditions. Designed with TrackIR users in mind, you'll find no equal in terms of HUD performance and accuracy. An incredible set of high resolution 2D panels (not because you need them, but because we believe in going the extra mile), and a dozen sub-panels round out the "office" of the F/A-18E. Our "intelligent" highly optimized 3D external model responds to preferences, drawing only the weapons you select for load-out with the Aircraft Configuration Manager. Thousands of weapons combinations are possible, yet only one 3D model is required.

In addition, all weight, drag and asymmetry is accounted for no matter what you load on the aircraft. When a weapon is released, it is of course fully animated, but most importantly the weight, drag, and lateral moments are accounted for accurately. Drop or fire a weapon and watch the flight dynamics change. This is MUCH more than a pretty plane; the VRS F/A-18 is serious aircraft simulation in every respect.

Extensive feature list includes:

  • Study-level simulation designed based on U.S. Navy NATOPS flight manuals.
  • Unmatched accuracy and depth of simulation.
  • The only true fly-by-wire control augmentation system (CAS) available for MSFS.
  • A single, dynamic (changes in real-time based on current loadout) base flight model.

5 of 5 Stars!5 of 5 Stars!5 of 5 Stars!5 of 5 Stars!5 of 5 Stars!

The best addon for Flight Simulator. Literally. The best. No competition whatsoever.
That's the short version, the long version goes something like this:
This aircraft is the revolution of military aviation sims that Flight Simulator fans have been looking for. It goes above and beyond EVERY addon I have EVER seen or even heard of for ANY version of Flight Simulator (yes, FSX too). Most developers say things like, "Oh, we couldn't model that, it's a flight sim limitation" or, "impossible, FS doesn't allow it". Well, Mr. Jon Blum of VRS, and his carefully assembled team of experts has essentially defeated those views and provided simmers with the ultimate product, and what is (and probably will remain) the most comprehensive aircraft available for this generation of simmers.
It starts with the very detailed documentation where you learn that so much has gone into this aircraft. There is a VERY simply setup procedure thanks to the INCREDIBLY concise and detailed documentation. You will be asked to spend a few short minutes setting up some specific controls and preferences for the aircraft within both the simulator, and what they call the "ACM". Afterwards, you can do a tutorial flight and by then you will be ready to fly.
If you ever run into problems, you are guaranteed a response. Just check out their forums / support forum (only available after purchasing). Jon works tirelessly (literally, I don't think he sleeps...) solving, or attempting to solve, ANY issues that people come up with, no matter how many times they come up, nor how stupid or farfetched they may sound. He (and his team!) investigate every possibility until a solution is found. If no solution is found, you are free to get a full refund at any time.
With advanced Fly By Wire (the first aircraft for Flight Simulator to incorporate TRUE FBW, not just bogus namesakes), advanced Flight Dynamics Engine, advanced systems modelling, detailed external model and virtual cockpit, and advanced animations, this aircraft is just a blast to fly each and every time, and I am still learning every single time I fly it. If it's in the real Superhornet, theres about a 95% chance it's in here (and that is A LOT of stuff for anyone who has seen the NATOPS manual on this thing!).
This is the PMDG of military aviation... except they did an even better job of it.
If this product even remotely interested you when you saw it on whatever website, it is worth buying. That interest will only grow. Buy it now, it is DEFINITELY worth every cent (and more!!!).

This Superbug is the next best thing to flying the real thing. The Avionic, Engine, Flight Control and Weapon systems are identical to the real SuperHornet in every way. Dog fighting and shooting guns and missles takes you away from the monotony of "just flying around" in FS9. Can't wait for the FSX upgrade to comeout. Great job VRS!
