WETTER 2004 V. 2.0 |
| REQUIREMENTS |
FS2004 |
|
|
These are the features of WETTER 2004 V. 1.0:
- random weather generation for FS 2004
- creates weather that you can see from the distance, according to the new weather features of FS 2004
- creates lot of different weather areas depending on the location of the airport
- writes weather to a weather file (wetter.wx) and flight file (wetter.flt), which are located in your saved flights folder
- need not to be run together with FS 2004, so there will be more RAM for FS 2004
- creates weather for every airport in FS2004
- creates low and high pressure areas
- creates smooth pressure changes
- creates winds that turn around high and low pressure areas as in reality
- creates different wind layers
- creates gusty winds (you may switch to steady wind generation)
- creates clouds depending on the location of high and low pressure areas
- creates different cloud layers
- creates thunderstorms (you may also switch thunderstorms off)
- creates fog areas (you may also switch fog generation off)
- creates rain areas depending on the location of high and low pressure areas
- creates cold and warm fronts with typical clouds and winds
- possibility to select thin cumulus cloud layers for better frame rates on slow machines
- creates turbulence (you may also switch turbulence off)
- creates temperatures which are typical for the location of the airport and the season
- creates different temperature layers
- creates realistic dewpoints with effect on visibility
- creates visibility depending on the location of high and low pressure areas
- shows and prints weather reports for better flight planning
- shows maps with fog, thunderstorm and rain areas, so the search for such areas will be very easy
- „training option“: no surface winds or no winds at all possible
- help buttons for almost every option
- tool tips when moving cursor over button
- no need to be connected to the Internet during your flight
- does not need FSUIPC.DLL

From my long experience with real world weather tools, this is the only tool that solves the problem of abrupt wind direction changes when FS2004 switches weather between airports (by far the most vexing issue in FS2004). Wind direction and pressure changes are much more smooth since the random weather patterns are pre-calculated for all the airports of a given region based on the time of day and season. Really abrupt transitions can only occur when airports are very far apart, such as over large bodies of water where airports are widely spaced (and that's an FS2004 weather limitation, not a Wetter restriction). Cloud formations also appear more realistic than the "patchwork" effect that seems to happen with real world weather tools, and there are no abrupt appearances or disappearances of cloud banks as I've seen frequently in real world weather. The cloud patterns are horizon to horizon, giving a much more realistic appearance to the weather systems even while at altitude on long-haul flights. The author was also very prompt at replying to my questions as well as my feature request. |

I like this item because: 1. It generates different weather at different places. Default themes from FS2004 don't have such feature even with highest weather change rate. 2. The weather difference is in a range of logics, for example it depends on time of year, place on globe, close locations have reasonable difference in the weather conditions. 3. I don't like to be on-line during flight, so "Wetter 2004" gives me possibility do not use "Real weather" feature. 4. I see visually conditions more far in flight at high altitude by using "Wetter 2004" than using FS2004 weather generating features. 5. I've received the answer to my question from author just in few hours. |

Contacted the vendor several times to try to get precise info on this product. It is only a random weather generator. If this is what you want then great. It is far better to decide where to fly then generate the weather yourself using a theme. If you want a real storm use Flight Keeper to download world weather to display it on a world map then go and fly there. |

A further note to my former review. From the info given about the product here, one gets the idea that they are the wonderful features of the product. But most of these features are default in FS2004 so in my opinion this is misleading. For €10 it would be worth it but at €30 ? |
