On the 6th. June 1944, a Douglas C-47 called “That’s all Brother” took off to lead the largest aerial armada the world has ever seen. They were on their way to spearhead the liberation of Europe and carve a significant chapter in the history of aviation. First flying in 1935, the original design was for a comfortable, medium to long distance airliner that could carry 21 passengers in seats or sleeper berths. The DC-3 as it was first known, popularised air travel in the USA in the 1930’s and went on to fly with most of the world’s major operators along with countless smaller passenger and freight carriers all over the globe.

Due to its rugged design properties and inherent adaptability, it did not take long for the military to recognise the potential in the DC-3. The type became known as the C-47 and was delivered to the US Army Air Force in a variety of specification to suit any purpose. As a troop carrier it delivered paratroops to drop-zones in every theatre of war. It re-supplied beleaguered armies with ammunition and supplies and evacuated the wounded from often inaccessible locations.

In peace-time, the DC-3 “Dakota” carried millions of passengers, flying in just about every country in the civilised world. With close to 2,000 examples still flying today, it is worth remembering that this design is now 86 years old!

Modern, “revitalised” DC-3s can be had with turbo-prop engines and sophisticated avionics packages which should see this piece of iconic aviation engineering operating for at least another 30 years. It is hard to think of another aircraft that can match the C-47/DC-3 in capability, endurance and reliability. “The only worthwhile replacement for a DC-3 is another DC-3” . Sadly true, it is unlikely that we shall ever see the like of the design, ever again.

In our simulation tribute, we have attempted to bring you something of the way it feels to fly one of these legends. A bone-shaking, rattling ride - often flying by the seat of your pants and relying on your flying skills and navigation prowess to get you through! You can sample several different variations in passenger and freight types and you can actually drop paratroopers and deliver heavy military equipment in the C-47. Re-enact that fateful day in June 1944 by flying “That’s all Brother” and test your skills to deliver your precious cargo to the drop-zone behind the Normandy beaches.

Many of the real-world functions of the design are replicated, including accurate engine start and management routines, correct operation of hydraulics for landing gear and flaps and a “working” original Sperry Gyro-pilot. There’s even a navigation sextant for those with the spirit to use one!

For modern pilots, we have included integration with the excellent Flight 1 GTN 750 and Rex/Milviz WX weather radar array. If you have these excellent softwares, the panels are already set up to accommodate your gauges. Whether you choose to fly the “Dak” in its original form or with modern avionics and nav-aids we can promise you a truly satisfying simulation experience. Choose to fly the military C-47 or the civilian DC-3, the experience is highly rewarding in either. Choose both and you will have the complete chapter of what must be aviation history’s most famous and enduring story.

AFS-DESIGN - PANAVIA TORNADO V2 FSX STEAM
David
Another AFS product that looks to offer a lot for the money but plagued with bugs. First off the flight models are not quite up to snuff compared to other makers of this same plane, but not really that bad either. The interiors are low Rez maybe slightly better than an average Virtavia cirque 2015 but some gauges do not work and others make no sense. For example the fuel flow never moves beyond its apparently locked position at 100% The inflight refuel fails to actually refuel. The tanker shows but no matter the speed or altitude you get no gas ever. The throttle goes straight to full afterburner half way up. You cannot fly more than barely 200kias without afterburner at altitude (such as FL360 plus) so you either fly full burn at high Mach speeds burning your fuel up nice and quick, or chug along like a struggling Cessna 208 past it’s ceiling. The auto pilot doesn’t have a speed hold so no joy there either. The missions don’t work, though you can technically select and fly them. The issue is no flight plan and no briefing can be located during the mission. So you have to take notes and prepare your flight like it were a WW2 era pencil and paper kind of thing. Unless you have a good memory and the pre flight briefing sticks in your head. Whatever you do you will not ever get a completion confirmation afterward. Rostock is supposed to be included with certain scenery updates but it hasn’t changed on bit after installing. Lighting up the GPS button should enable flight following of the GPS plan but it doesn’t. You have to select NAV to follow GPS which begs the question why even have a GPS button? 2 stars because I like the liveries and it can be fun to fly once in a while when I just want to go fast for a little bit, but other than that the noted problems make it not worth doing anything beyond that. Another AFS WTF product leaving a bad taste in my mouth. If they do a FREE update fixing all the problems it currently has, then it could be a fair 4 star product. Not today though. Based on FSX SE Win10 3.2 ghz I7 16GB RAM
AFS-DESIGN - EUROFIGHTER TYPHOON PROFESSIONAL 6 FSX STEAM
David
This is one of AFS better offerings. A pretty decent model inside and out with a nice selection of liveries. I have a Typhoon by another developer that is much better, but it doesn’t have many liveries at all. What sold me on this was the inflight refuel option in addition to the generous amount of liveries. There are aspects of this plane that feel off so to speak but for the money it’s hardly anything to complain about. All things considered this is my favorite AFS product.
JOHN DOWSON - FSUIPC7 FOR MSFS
Jan
Necessary thing for MSFS. The only thing that does not work is Save during the flight or its possibility of uploading, it does not work in MSFS, perhaps for now. I think the problem is not in this application but in loading the * flt file in MSFS. I take the autosave and its full operation as a necessary part of MSFS, which is still in development for me even when it is sold. If I read a flt file, the 'nose' of the plane climbs in the graphical interface of the MSFS menu / from the planet / and nothing will be read. Maybe updates for next times MSFS.
AEROSOFT - SIM-WINGS MUNICH MSFS
Jan
Munich Airport is just as well graphically and stably as the FSX version. Unfor-
tunately, I have to give 4 stars because no discount was provided due to the fact that he had purchased the scenery for FSX as well. Is anyone second only because he did not buy a version for P3D but for FSX?? The discount at the same airport only for MSFS should be the same for different previous versions.
ZINERTEK - ENHANCED AIRPORT GRAPHICS MSFS

Good work,good quality,FPS and stable.No problem.Nice!
SIMBREEZE - HURGHADA HEGN MSFS
Jan
I am very pleased that Simbreeze also released HEGN for MSFS. I missed this holiday destination and I appreciate the discount on the purchase, given that he had bought the original FSX, which unfortunately went aside. Good FPS, good quality and stable! Thanks! More such. What about Sharm El Sheik or Tunisian Djerba, Monastir, Enfidha? I would buy now :-(
JUSTSIM - EBBR - BRUSSELS-NATIONAL AIRPORT MSFS
Jan
1.Graphic processing of the airport is at an excellent level. Good frame, good texture resolution. 2. I don't know why, but during the night landing my taxiway disturbs my blue lights, which are even where they don't have an apartment. Don't they overlap from the original default? It is, of course, such a small detail, but above all the graphic design and FPS are evaluated, so I give 5 stars. Minor shortcomings will hopefully be eliminated in the future.
FSPXAI - EMBRAER E-JET FOR P3D4/5 AI-TRAFFIC
