The North American Rockwell Sabreliner is an aviation icon, representing a time in the U.S. aerospace industry when it was all “pedal-to-the-metal” in the race to develop the world’s fastest and most technically advanced jet aircraft. This was the late 50’s when space-race was in its infancy the Korean War was all but finished and the 60’s were just around the corner. The original design prototype combined two different roles - a fast personnel transport and a combat-readiness trainer, was powered by two General Electric YJ85 turbojets and took to the air in September 1958. It was not until April 1963 that the type received its FAA certification.

Military Sabreliners were designated with type number T-39A and were powered with the new Pratt&Whitney JT12A-8 turbojets. The layout and specifications of the T-39 and early civilian versions’ wing were those of the renowned F-86 Sabre jet fighter and the Sabreliner became a test-bed for research into improved wing-shapes and performance.

The result was the “super-critical” wing. Most recognisable by a deep trough in the underside just behind the leading edge of the wings, the super-critical design was used in many front-line fighters of the day and also in the Sabreliner 65 series which together with powerful twin Garrett TFE turbofans created one of the fastest, most fuel-efficient executive jets of the day. We present just 3 of the wide variety of Sabreliner versions - the ones that are most widely recognised. These are the T-39A, it’s stretched cousin, the 60 and of course the ubiquitous 65 executive jet.
We hope you will enjoy the Sabreliner as much as we did building it.

Amazing features

  • 3 Highly accurate, fully detailed models with many working animations.
  • All details accurately rendered
  • Fully detailed complete exterior cockpit with external clickable features.
  • Full PBR (Physical Based Rendering) materials and textures throughout.
  • Realistic removeable animated pilots.
  • Realistic animated passenger door action with telescopic rails, working handles etc.
  • Accurately modelled “super-critical-wing” (65 series) with correct flap actions and wing- mounted speed brakes.

Interior models

  • Highly accurate, fully detailed and fully-functional cockpit.
  • True to real-world aircraft.
  • Flight dynamics authored on real-world flight model and tested by a real Sabreliner pilot.
  • Instruments are finished with 3D paint faces and are equipped with 3D-modeled needles and pivot pins.
  • Realistic engine starting.
  • Authentic, professionally mastered stereo sound pack.
  • A huge number of working animations.

Multiple liveries

  • A variety of (FULL PBR) liveries are included to cover all variants.
  • Textures are created using new-technology “PBR Workflow” techniques as used in many of today's successful computer games. This brings a new level of realism to your flight simulation experience!.

As others have said, it has some rough edges.

Flight performance - while certainly "spirited", it seems to have an issue with fuel consumption. Tried 3-4 flights, and cannot get more than 500 miles with it - before fuel runs out. Also, still trying to get all the switches addressed in the cockpit -as has been mentioned elsewhere. Additionally, in v5.1, not getting landing lights to work - as would expect.

All of that being said, do like the potential here, with an aircraft "off the beaten path". Hopefully drawbacks are addressed with patches/service packs or hot-fixes to release the potential.

As others have stated it has all the bells, but not the whistles. The POH that comes with the plane leaves a lot of grey area. I finally got it down to 2 master caution lights on the panel. There's no way to extinguish the fuel filter block light. According to the real POH for a T-39, its 7-9 psi differential the light will illuminate and by pass at 9-11 PSI. I vote you just have the light there for looks, but disarm it. Also I couldn't figure out the pressurization. It was kind of a let down, N58HT is based at the airport I fly out of IRL, and I was hoping to live vicariously through the sim as I'm not sure how much longer she'll be around
