Description
Canberra is the capital of Australia. The city is located at the northern end of the Australian Capital Territory, 280 km southwest of Sydney and 660 km northeast of Melbourne.
The site for the construction of Canberra was chosen in 1908 as a compromise to end the rivalry between Sydney and Melbourne, the two largest cities in the country. An international city design competition was created and the project by architects Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin was chosen and construction began in 1913 and was completed in 1927.
