Lappeenranta Airport

Lappeenranta Airport, Finland (IATA: LPP, ICAO: EFLP) is located about two kilometres to the west of Lappeenranta city centre.

Lappeenranta is the capital of South Karelia region located on  the southern shore of the fourth largest lake in Europe, Saimaa.

In 2013, 98,300 passengers passed through the airport, then making it the 11th busiest airport in Finland. The airport was founded in 1918 and it is the oldest airport in Finland that is still functioning.

The airport is located in the old army camp. In 1918, the area was used for military aviation for the first time. The first scheduled flight landed here in 1951, and the airfield became an airport in the early 1960s, when the current terminal was built.

On the territory of the airport there is Karelia Aviation Museum witch permanent exhibition features the fighter planes of the Finnish Air Force.

There is a Society of Amateurs founded in 1932. The Society has two engine airplanes and four gliders, which fly very actively in summer.

The runway is 2,500 m long and 60 m wide.

Features:

  • Detailed skyline approaches, high-rise objects and infrastructure facility, bell towers, churches, industrials.
  • High Detailed 3D models of airport buildings and surroundings
  • Detailed 3D models of ground airfield equipment
  • PBR Materials on buildings, runways, taxiway and aprons, using realistic micro relief normals charts.
  • High resolution custom orthoimagery sets for the airport and area

The other reviews convinced me to give this model a try, and gladly so. Very nice design and slick exterior. Interior is not quite as pretty, but good enough (much better than most cheap models) and a good representation of basic functions like AP, radar, etc. I was looking for a nice two-seater jet with decent radar function to casually fly around in for fun, without too much hassle. This is definitely what I was looking for. At this price, I think this is a very fair deal.

Very impressed with this airport until SU5. Nicely done for sure (4-star on initial release). Well worth the purchase. Hoping it will be updated soon so that I can use it again. Will gladly update my review once it is back up and running.

All coastlines should be like this! Keep up the good work and don't give up!

This was always my favourite microlight / LSA plane in FSX, and I was so pleased to see it released for MSFS. It is even more fantastic in MSFS! One point deducted because their are no door opening sounds, and the outside sound does not blend in, when the doors are opened. If they can be fixed, it's five stars.

The scenery definitely has its strong points: - Crisp ground markings with good colour and great accuracy - Dynamic landing-T at the signal square area - Some areas/buildings important to fly VFR have been modelled - Nice work on the snow coverage These are important features and the developer can be commended for doing these. Howev-
er, the scenery falls short in many other areas: - Biggest let-down for me is the ground texturing. It is not at all true-to-life, the grass runway and its associated taxiways have a yellow-green texture while the rest of the grass area is much more blueish-green. This is not at all realistic and looks quite cartoonish and bad when on final during landing. - While the recreational facilities have been modelled quite nicely, the buildings themselves are of very low detail and have blurry textures with what looks like compression artefacts. This is not at all what the simulator is capable of showing and is a clear sign of porting over from P3D/FSX. - The night lighting, while being marketed as a highlight of the scenery, is very disappointing. For the buildings it means a blurry and over-exposed photo of lit-up windows, very unnatural looking and also a clear left-over from P3D/FSX. Ove-
rall it is clear that this scenery is a rather simple port of the old P3D/FSX sceneries. There is no interior modelling, no open hangar with a lively interior, no PBR texturing, and an overall lack of detail on the flying side of things. While I admire them from modelling some of the airport's surroundings and doing a dynamic landing-T, it is still a very low fidelity scenery nowhere near the standard a modern MSFS scenery can have. You need only to compare to masterpieces from Burning Blue Designs, AUScene or NZA Simulations to realise this Birrfeld scenery would need a complete makeover to be able to compete at the same level of quality. Here's hope that we can soon have Birrfeld V2!
