Located in the heart of Yosemite National Park, just 9 nautical miles from the half dome rock, lies Pilot's Rest.
This wonderful new vacation camp for pilots features luxury accommodation, private airplane parking, helipads, a floatplane dock, a restaurant with a swimming pool, and glorious sandy beaches on the shores of the lake. So whether you come by a standard plane, helicopter or float plane, Pilot's Rest will accommodate your every need, and aims to provide the perfect base from which to explore the stunning Yosemite National Park. And if you love Pilot's Rest and don't want to leave, then why not make it your homebase for your pilot career? We welcome long-term rentals.
However, be warned - this airport is not for the faint of heart, and we advise that only the most skilled and bravest pilots rent or buy a home here. Not only is the runway short, but it is dug into the mountainside and is enclosed from each side and above. The cave runway has only one entrance, and a go-around is not an option. Your approach will have to be perfect. Every time.
If you prefer to come by float plane, then you have two options: a direct and relatively safe approach onto the lake, or through the winding and narrow canyon if you prefer a challenge or if the wind favours this approach.
Pilots arriving by helicopter may park outside their own rented property, or on one of the helipads. However, we ask that you do not land on the helipad across the lake - this is a staff area and the helipad is for emergencies or supplies only.
