FSX FS2004
Apart from Flight Simulator you need ©Windows 2000 or higher. FlightSim Commander does not run on Windows 98.
For connecting FlightSim Commander with Flight Simulator you need a version of Peter Dowson's FSUIPC.DLL 3.9 (for FS2004) or FSUIPC4 (for FS-X).
If you wish to use FlightSim Commander in a network, you also need Peter Dowson's WideFS package. |
FlightSim Commander is a professional flight planner, GPS, Moving Map and navigation tool for Flight Simulator 2004 and Flight Simulator X . Being a stand-alone program, FlightSim Commander can also be used in a network or with single-monitor or multi-monitor systems.
The program includes among many features:
- flight planning for entire routes or route segments
- display of both ground and airborne AI traffic,
- real-world and user waypoint database,
- North Atlantic Tracks, PACOTs,
- automatic logbook and blackbox recording,
- control zone checks for VFR flights,
- GPS with real-time display of all relevant parameters,
- procedure generator and fuel calculator,
- SIDs/STARs and customizable route segments,
- printable approach and departure charts
- printable airport layout charts
- ©VATSIM and ©IVAO support
FlightSim Commander has a large number of different features and functions which are, in most cases, accessible over separate windows. These windows are accessed by choosing the corresponding menu or by pressing the corresponding button in the Map Window which is the main window of FlightSim Commander.

This product has many nice features, including quick copying of routefinder routes directly into the flight plan and exporting the plan to any other product you can think of. Furthermore it displays online IVAO and VATSIM information (or AI traffic in offline mode) in the map view and that is really cool. The gps window is little gem in itself. As many simmers, I have been using FSNavigator for years so takes definitively some time to get used to the new way of operating. FSC is not a very intuitive product to use. It comes with an extensive 100+ page manual (pdf format) that you must read to be able to fully use the software. The trial mode lets you try almost all options (saving excluded) so you can try before you buy. Featurewise I would rate 5 stars but for (lack of) usabilty I am afraid I have to subract one. |

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with a previous reviewer, but I don't think this is an excellent product. It's an acceptable product. As a longtime user of FS Navigator I switched to FlightSim Commander because the former is no longer sold or supported (and is not compatible with FSX). By comparison I find FlightSim Commander frustrating and counter intuitive to use. I have yet to get the so-called logbook function to work. All in all, I think as a product it's fairly expensive for what it is. |
