Although the Gloster Meteor is regarded as typical of Britain’s Jet Age supremacy, its development actually began in the dark days of 1940 and the design, although quite primitive, turned out to be a successful fighter and evolved quickly through the 1940s and 1950s. Although the aircraft saw only limited combat in WWII, nearly 4,000 airframes were built in a variety of specifications, including ground attack and photo-reconnaissance, and served with many countries. Meteors flew as night-fighters, trainers and ejection-seat test-beds. An F.3 set the world’s first official air speed record for a jet aircraft on 7th November 1945 at 606 miles per hour. The following year an F.4 extended this record to 616 miles per hour. One Meteor, fitted with Rolls-Royce Trent turbines driving propellers, even became the world’s first turboprop aircraft to take to the air.

Although quickly eclipsed by the stars of the late 50s and 60s, the Gloster Meteor will always hold its position in the history of aviation as the UK’s first operational jet fighter.

This FSX/P3D collection includes models of the F.8 fighter and the FR.9 fighter-reconnaissance variants, in a total of 12 liveries. The detailed virtual cockpit features simple autopilot functionality, simulated UV cockpit lighting and a retractable reticle gunsight. Other features include selectable wing fuel tanks or wing-mounted (non-operational) rockets (rockets non-operational), an authentic sound set and selectable identification light colours.

Take a look at Greg McKenzie's cockpit panorama for a full 3D tour of the Meteor cockpit!

LIVERIES

Meteor F.8

  • WF714 of No. 500 Sqn Royal Auxiliary Air Force, West Malling, Kent, 1953
  • EG-10 MN-S of 350 Smaldeel, Belgian Air Force, 1950s
  • FS4440 of the Brazilian Air Force, now resident at the TAM Aviation Museum
  • A77870 of the Royal Australian Air Force 'Meteorites' aerobatic team
  • A77851 of 77 Sqn Royal Australian Air Force - the famous 'Halestorm' flown by flown by Sgt George Hale during the Korean War and credited with two MiG kills in 1953. A Mk.8 has been restored to replicate the famous fighter and is currently the only Meteor F.8 still flying.
  • A7717 of 77 Sqn Royal Australian Air Force, Korea, 1953
  • VZ467 Meteor F.8 of 615 Sqn (County of Surrey) Royal Auxiliary Air Force. This particular aircraft and scheme was prepared for a flypast to celebrate Winston Churchill’s birthday, but due to a fuel crisis the flypast never actually took place.
  • WK 681 F.8 of No.65 Sqn, RAF Aerobatic Team based at Duxford in December of 1953

Meteor FR.9

  • WZ603 of No. 8 Sqn RAF, Sharjah May, Oman, 1960
  • WZ956 of No. 208 Sqn RAF, Ta Qali (Malta) (Operation Musketeer), 1956
  • FR-36 Meteor of 117 Tajeset, Israeli Defence Force, 1955. It was in this aircraft that Capt. Aharon Yeoli shot down two Egyptian De Havilland Vampires to score the IDF’s first jet kill. How ironic was it that the victims that fell to his guns were also iconic early British jet fighters?
  • WL 263 of No. 208 Squadron RAF, Nicosia, Cyprus, 1956

GLOSTER METEOR

Although the Gloster Meteor is regarded as typical of Britain’s Jet Age supremacy, its development actually began in the dark days of 1940 when the Battle of Britain was being fought in the skies over war-torn England and the threat of invasion was imminent. Sir Frank Whittle had begun work on the power plant for Britain’s first jet in 1936 and it was this pioneering work that led to the eventual first flight of a Meteor in 1943. The first operational fighters went to war with 616 Squadron RAF on the 27th July, 1944.

The design, although quite primitive, turned out to be a successful fighter and evolved quickly through the 1940s and 1950s. Although the aircraft saw only limited combat in WWII, nearly 4,000 airframes were built in a variety of specifications, including ground attack and photo-reconnaissance, and served with many countries - Argentina, Egypt and Israel among them. Australia flew the Meteor in Korea with great success, claiming several victories over the more sophisticated MiGs and carrying out many ground attack sorties.

During the 1950s jet aircraft development surged forward with much faster and more powerful designs like the F-86 Sabre from the USA, Gloster’s own Javelin, and the amazingly successful Hawker Hunter rendering the Meteor obsolete as a front-line jet fighter. Although quickly eclipsed by the stars of the late 50s and 60s, the Gloster Meteor will always hold its position in the history of aviation as the world’s first operational jet fighter.

FLYTAMPA - AMSTERDAM FSX P3D
michael hansen
One word WOW. very nice flytampa its running very smooth, and good fps my new favorit airport.
EDITVOICEPACK
Ken McVie
This is a great little program for correcting airline call signs meaning that there is no longer a need to adjust them via the aircraft.cfg file (a process that rarely works anyway). It also enhances the realism to the voice exchange with ATC. However-
, it does not change the voice accents of the flight crews. It works well with FSX:Steam.
WING CREATION INC - SHIZUOKA RJNS FSX P3D
Dale Wong
Great scenery but I think Wing Creation should use a higher resolution texture for the apron, as that's where we spend a long time on and there are a small glitched hill next to the airport that won't affect anything (it might be just on my end, not sure). Other than that, this is a really great product, really looking forward to the new Tokyo Haneda they are going to develop!
LORBY-SI - AITRACKER X FSX P3D

Very handy traffic tool. Fills a void in the AI traffic viewing and control area. Develope-
r is super responsive to questions and updates. Also check out the Lorby Live Traffic tool on his site. Very interesting stuff going on. Keep up the good work!
LORBY-SI - WHERE ARE MY AIRCRAFT WAMA FSX P3D
Geoff Bryce
I have always wanted to be able to display my aircraft out in the open so I can walk between them and choose an aircraft to fly or simply look at the various models, versions and repaints I have. Where-Are-My-Ai-
rcraft does this and more. This is a fantastic program. It also allows me to get to any of my static objects(airplan-
es,animals,boat-
s, ground vehicles, misc, and rotorcraft(in Simobjects) in FSX, FSX-SE or P3D, as well as display any of my purchased addon, stock or Ai aircraft at any airport. To save on VAS, it allows you to replace any aircraft with a 'object' or an AI. There are "Scenes" which allow you collect static objects into GROUPS. For example, you could define an airport with Sunshine and Rain scenes and add different static objects to them. You can then activate the one or the other and WAMA will show only objects of the active one. Really smart. I notice the same author has another great program called AI Tracker X which allows you to better control and look at your AI aircraft. Top effort.
FSXCENERY - KDEC DECATUR AIRPORT FSX P3D
Curtis Branch
I really appreciate the work of this developer. By using online sources, they present very convincing airports that are of good value. The photo scenery is clear, and in this case has seasonal textures. Frame rates are excellent on my system. If you have proper expectations, then you will be quite satisfied with their work. This is the second Illinois airport that I've purchased, and I am quite pleased with both. Fsxcenery is a niche developer producing regional airports that are often overlooked by the larger developers.
LATINVFR - BERMUDA TXKF

Wow the best Bermuda out there! It's 100% Inclusive! It includes - full airport -Full island with all the buildings - moving cars - and more I really recommend this to all its 99.99.99.99.99% worth your $$. The . Percent is because of one little car glitch on the end of the island but it's fine to me because I do not need some little cars. To me I don't really care but get it because it is like the only one with the full island out their.

LORBY-SI - FIREFIGHTER X FSX P3D
Shawn Lund
Hands down the most fun add on I have ever purchased. Dropping water on a fire with a helicopter and then flying to the nearest water body to refill is amazing and challenging. Watching the fire spread is almost as much fun as watching it go out with your bucketing effort : ) Shawn Lund Air Attack Officer BC wildfire Service
