Originally opened in 1887 by the Malmesbury Railway Company, the Malmesbury Branch Line ran to the Cotswold town of Malmesbury in Wiltshire. The construction of the line was partially funded by the Great Western Railway and the line was fully absorbed by the GWR in 1880.

This very atmospheric Train Simulator route is set during the British Railways era, a couple of years after the GWR was nationalised in 1948. BR was quick to try and close the branch, with passenger services finishing in late 1951 and the branch completely closing in 1962. It's a relatively short route at 3 3/4 miles in length but is very accurate and has over 100 custom assets.

The route portrays the run-down bucolic atmosphere of this country branch line during the last few years of steam and features many custom assets, including landmarks around Malmesbury as well as the overwhelming majority of the railway structures, helping to capture the atmosphere of the time and place.

Included with the route is a GWR Diagram AA3 'Toad' brake van - No. 17501 'R. U. Malmesbury' which was the dedicated branch van from the late 1930s into the 1950s. There’s also a generic version included which has a selection of typical numbers that will automatically be generated when placed. A Guard’s view is available and will switch you to a view from the veranda - useful when propelling a train as well as giving you a nice view of the scenery!

The route is supplied with five scenarios covering passenger services, freight trains and mixed trains utilising default Train Simulator items.

If you purchased Train Simulator after 20th September 2012 then you will require the European Loco & Asset Pack (available to purchase via Steam) for the route to display correctly.

Malmesbury Branch also requires the Riviera Line in the Fifties add-on (available to purchase from Steam) to work correctly.

SCENARIOS

Standard scenarios

The route comes with several scenarios covering passenger services, freight trains and mixed trains:

Scenario 1: Afternoon Trip to Malmesbury
This scenario involves running a summer afternoon passenger service from Little Somerford to Malmesbury. Once at Malmesbury, a run around is required before bringing the return working back.

Stock: 57XX Pannier Tank and a couple of coaches
Weather: Clear and sunny.
Duration: Approximately 25 mins.

Scenario 2: Mixed Train to Malmesbury
This scenario involves taking the morning mixed freight/passenger service to Malmesbury. Once at Malmesbury some shunting is required to position the wagons in the yard. Once the wagons have been positioned, it's time for a swift run back to Little Somerford with the return passenger working. The timings are quite tight so you may need to be liberal with the regulator!

Stock: 57XX Pannier Tank, two coaches, a few wagons and the branch brake van
Weather: Sunny with showers
Duration: Approximately 30 mins.

Scenario 3: Winter Freight
This scenario takes place on a cold and foggy morning. With visibility highly restricted you’ll be tasked with taking the morning freight to Malmesbury, shunting it into the yard and bringing back any outgoing wagons to Little Somerford. The rails will be icy and the signals obscured by the fog, so great care will have to be taken!

Stock: 57XX pannier tank, a few wagons and the branch brake van
Weather: Dull, snowy, icy and foggy!
Duration: Approximately 35 mins.

Scenario 4: Shunting the Pickup Freight
On a blustery autumn afternoon, bring a pickup freight across Somerford Viaduct and into Little Somerford station. Once you’re at the station the wagons will need marshalling in the yard. Plan your shunting moves carefully and don’t get distracted by the traffic passing on the adjacent tracks. Remember to keep an eye on the signals as Train Simulator signalling doesn’t quite function prototypically and you may need to [Ctrl]+[TAB]/[TAB] to pass some signals during shunting.

Stock: 68XX Grange, a long train of wagons and a guard’s van
Weather: Stormy!
Duration: Approximately 30 mins.

Scenario 5: Siphons for Scrap

This scenario takes place on a pleasant summer’s morning. Some Siphon vans have been in store at Great Somerford and the time has come for them to be taken to Swindon for scrapping. With a Brake Third coach in tow, you’ll head down to Kingsmead Crossing, where you’ll throw the points and head along Kingsmead Siding. Once at Great Somerford you’ll add the Siphons to your train before running down to Malmesbury to run around and head back up to Little Somerford. Quite a bit of shunting is required as you need to keep the Brake Third at the rear of the train to act as a brake van.

Stock: 57XX, Brake Third and milk Siphons
Weather: Clear and pleasant
Duration: Approximately 50 mins.

Free Roam scenario

As this is a Free Roam scenario you must remember to ensure that the route has been set correctly to avoid being directed into sidings or derailed on junctions set against the train.

SKY SIMULATIONS - MCDONNELL DOUGLAS DC-9 P3D
Alec Main
Great product! Highly recommended!! Fairly priced for the amount of models included. Free liveries on website & easy-to-use convenient installer. This troubled me a bit, but if you're unable to move the flaps or spoilers lever, make sure you turn on HYDRAULICS on the first officers side, down by the center console. Good customer support. Happy Simming ^^ Tested and works in Prepar3D V3.4.22.19868
FSXCENERY - KHSV HUNTSVILLE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT FSX P3D
Bradley Banister
This is a nice rendition of my home airport. I am very happy with the product although there are a few disappointing items, even at this price. My first disappointment was the jetway's are incorrect. KHSV has 12 gates with jetways, all clearly visible on Google Earth. This scenery only has 8. This is the only major issue I think the scenery has. The rest are smaller details mostly dealing with parking spaces and probably not an issue to others. None of the parking has airline codes. A Google search quickly can show you which airlines use which gates so I believe they should have added this. Nothing breaks the feeling of reality more than loading a flight and having a Atlas Air Cargo B747 parked in the next gate. The scenery has a lot of parking on the tarmac with the gates. I don't see any evidence of that parking markings from google earth. Just as importantly, after 8 years of flying in/out of KHSV many times a year, I have never seen an aircraft parked in those locations. In contrast to the above, the northeastern GA tarmac does not have any parking in the scenery. In real life this tarmac is always full of aircraft, from small GA props and biz jets, to private or charter 737s. I believe the Port of Huntsville cargo area should also have more and larger parking spaces. Atlas and Panalpina alone typically have 2 or 3 B747s, including the LCF variant parked there at time in real life. There are what I think a lot of extra .bak and .txt files left over from development residing in the scenery folder. They don't take up a lot of extra space, but I think they should have been cleaned up before release. Lik-
e I said, except for the jetways, these are minor issues and I "fixed" them all in about 30 minutes using ADE so I would recommend this product to anyone interested in this airport. It is a good value for the money.
FLYTAMPA - AMSTERDAM FSX P3D
William Alexander
As always, FlyTampa has hit another home run with this vast airport. Textures are sharp and clean and the accompanied scenery configurator (I happen to own every FlyTampa product on FSX Sp2) allows tweaking for almost every user out there. Having a high end pc gave me excellent results, but with everything set to HD (default installation is HD), one can easily run into OOM due to high VAS - in this case, I simply installed the "lite" texture pack which hardly affected the visual quality (my FSX cfg is set to 1024 max anyway so I wasn't perturbed by this in the least); after all this is a flight simulator and I want to fly rather than worry about CTD on approach to Amsterdam! The surrounding areas are also covered which is always a huge plus in my opinion - this addition adds the finishing touches I always am drawn to. A job beautifully done! Highly recommended.
KINGS SCENERIES - SAN ANTONIO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT FSX
Bill Brewer
Buildings are good.. However Runways need updated, gates definitely need to be updated.. currently RWY 12R is suppose to be 13R & there are couple other runways needing updated. Alot of missing gates & mismarked gates.. A gates not even listed, there just under gate Numbers. There really isn't any B gates listed anyway.. I sent them an email with a link too the actual layout gate number wise but yet to hear back from them.. The building have good texture to them & would be a really nice scenery once these updates were added but as is right now especially for pilots flying on vatsim, not a very reliable scenery to use right now.. Until it gets updated anyway..

BRIDGE - GUANGZHOU BAIYUN AIRPORT ZGGG FSX P3D
Zhijun Gui
It was the best Chinese airport scenery ever seen. The jetway can not be move but it's not a big problem. Very good frame rate and texture. Keep going and make more awesome scenery in China!!!
SCENERY ON DEMAND - DRAGONEYE HONG KONG FSX P3D
andy collins
Disappointed. I find the quality of the underlying photo imagery poor - the greenery is just about ok but any built environment is uniformly pale and indistinct. The main airport (VHHH) has not been blended into the photo scenery at all well, and I don't feel is particularly impressive as an airport model. If this has been available as a demo version I certainly wouldn't have gone on to buy it.
WF SCENERY STUDIO - SHANGHAI HONGQIAO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ZSSS FSX P3D
Kai Uwe Pel
What an excellent scenery for FSX... its a very detailed airport, great modeled and all the textures are pretty good. Very recommended! -
WF Scenery Studio did an awesome job in all!
RFSCENERYBUILDING - LICC CATANIA-FONTANAROSSA FSX P3D
Ken McVie
This is a beautifully modelled version of LICC. Lovely detail of the airport itself, ground vehicles and of the surrounding area. Good framerates too. Well worth the spend, particularly at the sale price!
HIFI TECH - ACTIVE SKY 2016 FSX
Antoine Lebourg
Great add-on. Nice to have integrated weather radar feature integrated with 3rd party planes such as PDMG or FSL. Nevertheless, I'm facing some FPS issue with heavy weather with rain
