OVERVIEW:

So, what is the most beautiful piston engine airliner? Pose this question among two or more aviation enthusiasts and you may be sure that a lively, possibly heated discussion will ensue. However, I would be quite surprised if most, if not all, would ultimately agree that the Lockheed “Constellation” was the most beautiful, graceful if you prefer, or at least among the top two or three.

The “Connie,” as it was universally and affectionately called (much to the dismay of Eddie Rickenbacker of WWI fame who, as the owner of Eastern Airlines, thought the name to be too effeminate) was a spectacular and singular aeronautical design from the first rude sketch of “Excalibur” to the last L-1649 “Starliner.” Gathering many firsts and breaking many records in its almost five decades-long useful lifetime, Constellation consistently stands out from her sister airliners both visually and functionally. Sadly, the many luminous stars embodying this “Constellation” were ultimately eclipsed when at their brightest by the urgent, inexorable force of progress which saw the end of the age of the long-distance piston engine airliners and the birth of the big, jet-powered transports. This new era of air-transportation in the U.S. Began on 26 October 1958 when Pan American Airlines (Pan Am) flew a Boeing 707 with 111 passengers from New York to London. Soon, the jet-powered Douglas DC-8, Convair 880 and Sud Aviation “Caravelle” joined the 707 and long-range piston airliners were through.

Even so, there are many, this writer among them, who posit that even whilst swifter, no kerosene burning aluminum tube has ever come close to matching Connie’s superb grace and poise. Her story is full of ironies and surprises, of Geniuses, Presidents and Pioneers. You see, there once was this fabulously wealthy, incandescently brilliant, eccentric movie mogul, aviator and airline owner who had an idea for an airplane... - Excerpt from Constellation manual history by Mitchell Glicksman © 2016

FEATURES:

History comes alive: Experience a timeless legend brought to life inside a simulation.

Every aircraft is unique: Don't expect all gauges to read the same values, just like the real airplane. And each airplane is persistent.

Four crew positions: pilot, co-pilot, flight engineer, and navigator. Fully modelled and functioning positions constructed with down to the rivet detail.

Intelligent crew and responsive passengers:

Your engineer can manage all the systems on the fly, responding to various conditions

- Copilot calls out critical info

- Navigator observes and posts findings

- Flight attendent tirelessly works for both you and the passengers (just like the real world counterparts)

Unexpected events possible: Engines along with other systems including heating, air conditioning, and pressurization can be problematic

Captain's Career: Your performance is remembered and can get better, worse, or stay consistent based on your flying abilities and flight management

Real time Load Manager: with the ability to load individual passengers, cargo, and fuel or select presets.

Custom Navigator's Map: Zoomable map can be customized to show the desired information

Default and Historic Sperry Autopilot: You can select either autopilot in the sim

Authentic fuel deliver includes primer only starts: You can start the engines properly by using primer with the mixture in the OFF position.

Auto-Mixture: that actually performs as intended. Now you can set for “auto-rich” or "auto-lean" and the aircraft fuel to air ratio will be automatically determined and set by the carburetor based upon various factors such as altitude.

Custom Cockpit Systems and Gauges for the ultimate in realism taken far beyond what is available by default.

Inertia starters: Start these big beautiful engines by the book using authentic inertia wheel energizing and engagment

Feathering props and air starts: Custom physics allows for realistic feathering and air starts without using the starter

Deep cockpit lighting: Flood, Flourescent, and gauge lighting modeled

Dual speed superchargers: Proper supercharger physics and each engine can independently run in either high or low blower

New slip and ball code from the Accu-Sim T-6: Enjoy smooth, custom physics in this critical gauge during turning maneuvers

Authentic flight stability: The Connie was known for being a little less stable in pitch than other aircraft, which requires a little more finess and attention

Piston combustion engine modeling

Real-world conditions affect system conditions, including engine temperatures.

Fully click-able cockpits: with authentically working systems and gauges.

3D Lights 'M' (built directly into the model.)

Pure 3D Instrumentation.

- Natural 3D appearance with exceptional performance.

- Smooth movements.

Fire Extinguisher system with fully functioning overheard panel and controls.

Ground Power Unit (GPU) to power systems with engines off and not drain the battery.

Cabin pressurization system controls. You control the target altitude and the rate of pressure change and the system authentically displays and manages cabin pressure.

Three different liveries: including TWA, BOAC, and a C-69 cargo paint

A2A specialized bump mapping and specular lighting on all models.

Crew Reports pop-up 2D panel keeps important information easily available

Custom Navigator's map: accessible via keystroke or the Navigators station.

Manage temperatures with engine cowl flaps and oil cooler flaps

High temperatures can adversely affect engine performance, Serious overheating can cause scoring of cylinder head walls including ultimate failure if warnings are ignored and overly abused.

Spark plugs can clog and eventually foul if engines are allowed to idle too low for too long. Throttling up an engine with oil-soaked spark plugs can help clear them out

Experience authentic asymmetrical drag when operating various flap systems in flight.

REVIEWS
Following the T6 Texan, A2A released another big 4-motor aircraft: the Constellation.\r\nThis was very exciting, as A2A improves their products with every new release. Makes you wonder what “Connie” has as improvements compared to the earlier released Boeing 337 Stratocruiser.\r\nFSX has limits, A2A however always delivered very well operating aircrafts. Question is how much better a product can they deliver?

PILOT'S - LEAM - ALMERIA AIRPORT FSX P3D FSW
Lee James
This is a review of PILOT's Almeria Airport scenery (LEAM) for FSX P3D FSW (Note that there is a separate download version for P3D v4?). Firstly, let me say that this is arguably one of the best small sceneries I have seen for FSX for some time - but it is actually huge and covers a large area around the airport! Yes, the big guys continue to produce amazing scenery for FSX and P3D, but this is wonderful gem of a product is up there with them! The scenery is a large download (1.64GB for the FSX version) but it covers not just the airport, but an extensive area all around the vicinity. The attention to detail is amazing and the pictures don't really do this justice! There is extensive use of textured buildings, vehicles and the scenery has everything you can wish for, including moving vehicles and moving people all over the ramp! The airfield is extremely detailed and landing there and parking up feels very much like a real life airport! The airport comes alive in front of you! I run my SIM at a resolution of 2560 x 1440 on a 27 inch monitor using 1024 texture size - and the place looks wonderful! Imagine what it is going to look like using a texture size of 2048 and above!! VAS is excellent. I flew the FSLabs Airbus A320 X out of Gatwick and into Almeria today just before this review. On the approach, VAS never went below 1.4GB available and on landing in cockpit view and after panning around a lot to take pictures, VAS was still above 1.1GB available. Framerates are no problem at all being around 48 to 55fps. How they manage to pack in all this detail and still keep VAS usage so low and frame rates so high, is beyond me! Please note that PILOT's produce a SEPARATE version of this scenery for P3D, so I assume that this version noted for FSX-P3D-FSW is for P3D version 3 while the other version is for P3D version 4 or above. If you do a search on Simmarket for LEAM, you will see the two versions. But I am not entirely sure. Installation is easy as you get to choose your SIM version in the setup and it even found my FSX-SE installation on my D: drive! When you download the product and begin the install, make sure you unzip the complete contents of the zip to a temporary folder - the SETUP.EXE file needs to find certain files located in the same folder as itself. This scenery on my system is installed and used in FSX-SE (Steam Edition) and I also use Orbx FTX Global and FTX Europe LC, together with AS2016 for real time weather along with Cloud Art and REX Enhanced. Test system is an i7-7700k CPU overclocked to 4.5GHz, 16GB System RAM, Windows 10 64-bit Home Edition installed on a 500GB SSD. FSX-SE is installed separately on a 7200rpm 2TB Internal Hard drive. Graphics is a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti with 11GB of video Ram. FSX is running at 2560 x 1440 resolution using 1024 size textures. At 25 Euros, they have the price just right. If you like to fly down to southern Spain, this scenery is a MUST HAVE! I have no hesitation in recommending this scenery. Lee James - West Sussex UK
DAZZLE COLOUR GAME - MOHE GULIAN AIRPORT ZYMH FSX P3D4
Fulvio Arman
Well, if compared to its price, it's a decent price; I purchased it just for its geographical position interesting for my tours. Cons; flickering in the fences. The overall appeal is something more than a freeware. In conclusion, purchase it only if you need it.
DRZEWIECKI DESIGN - SEATTLE CITY X FOR FSX P3D
Andrew Birg
Was worried about performance when used with the airports package... but was completely blown away with better performance than with the default when installed. It is a must for flying in and out of Seattle. Honestly the best city package period. Must buy!
DRZEWIECKI DESIGN - SEATTLE CITY X FOR FSX P3D
Aro Delahunty
Not so great when using alone but together with Seattle Airports this is probably the best bundle for FS I've seen so far. The area is huge, there is an amazing amount of details and FPS is actually better than in the default scenery (FSX:SE and P3Dv4). Not only the downtown area is covered with custom buildings but also many more areas, even MS campus and Bellevue. The large area looks great on approaches to every airport from the Airports pack. Both products highly recommended. Looking forward to their upcoming city products.
FSPS - MULTICORE NEXT FSX
KIM SIBBRITT
Purchased this product a few days ago,& it deserves to be commented on. FSX is very heavily CPU dependant. By default it assigns FSX to Core no.1 only. With Multicore Next I have been able to assign it to ALL 6 Cores on my computer. The improvement has been VAST. FSX is running smoother, Landclass Textures, Trees & Autogen are all drawing in faster,& my Frame Rates have improved. So if like me you have spent a huge amount of time & money on your FSX,& don't want to start all over again with P3D,I can HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product. It has made big difference to my FSX. Kim.
LATINVFR - KEY WEST KEYW V2 FSX P3D
Aro Delahunty
Even though it was published 3 years ago it is still a beautiful product. I love water textures around the island and plenty of details on the apron (humans, vehicles, planes). Also it is great that the whole airport surrounding is included with many non-airport buildings and very good autogen annotation. The location is gorgeous and the product is very well done.
DIGITAL DESIGN - TENERIFE-SOUTH P3D4
Darren Crosby
I was waiting for GCTS for sometime. It was worth the wait. the scenery is excellent, kind on FPS and the attention to detail is on par with other top scenery designer's. I also purchased Mallorca, and Ibiza at the same time. You wont be disappointed.
AEROSOFT - LUKLA X MOUNT EVEREST FSX P3D
Chuck Poole
On my system (W10 i5 4gb VR 16GB System Ram)it would not work in FSX-SE and then after upgrading to Prepar3d v4 I had the same problem. The problem is fractured landscape and misplaced buildings. The plane started sticking out of solid rock. The runway was way off heading. In other words, it was a total disaster and and completely usable. It's been like that for some time.
TOPCAT - Take-Off and Landing Performance Calculation Tool
Matthew Marshall
Whilst this app was great a few years ago, it simply hasn't kept up with the times, for example, there aren't options for the PMDG 777-300ER. Unfortunately, due to this, it has limited lifetime and competitors such as TOPS are actively integrating more aircraft.
FSPS - FSX BOOSTER LIVE 2018
Kelly hanlon
Was a bit leery of this, but purchased to try. Love it, it will not get you more frames all the time, but what it will do is allow you to slide the slider towards more frames when you are coming into land at a complex airport and get an extra 10 fps out of it (mileage will vary). Really not a bad buy. One slider and that is it...simple.
