LEGACY PRODUCT - NO SUPPORT GIVEN WHATSOEVER

    CF-18 Hornet details:
The CAF CF-18 Hornet Military add-on aircraft package is specifically designed for use with MSFS 2004 and has been re-created with "extreme-detail" in mind. With the ease of the Self-Install file, you can quickly load the new Hornet's into your flight simulator. This FSDS V2 designed aircraft model is an attempt at capturing the essence of the curves, lines, and intricate animations of the original F/A-18 Hornets.

This package includes several CF-18 models representing many Canadian Armed Forces Squadrons featuring both CF-188 and CF-18/B variations in several weapons configurations. Also included in this package are International variations of the F/A-18 that are currently in use by the air forces of Switzerland and Finland.

    CF-18 Hornet versions:
Aircraft included in this package are from the following CAF Squadrons:

CAF 4 Wing 410 Squadron "Cougars" Operational Training Squadron CAF 4 Wing 416 Squadron "Lynx" Tactical Fighter Squadron CAF 3 Wing 425 Squadron "Alouette" Tactical Fighter Squadron CAF 4 Wing 441 Squadron "Silver Fox" Tactical Fighter Squadron CAF AETE Aerospace Engineering Test Establishment

Bonus aircraft in this package are from International air forces including:

    • Finnish Air Force Fighter Squadron 21
    • Swiss Air Force - Squadron 17

    CF-18 Hornet Panel details:
Functionality, attention to detail and recreating the "real feel" of a fighter cockpit has been aerialfoundry's focus in the design of the Hornet's 2D panel and virtual cockpit (VC). Original gauges are visible and accessible through the VC, which is wrapped in original textures that cover every part of this cockpit giving an extraordinary depth to this VC.

The "Pilot's Point of View" in the single seat VC seats the virtual pilot comfortably with clear vision in the aircraft and allows pilots taking the tandem seat versions up, to experience and take the controls from "rear seat".

The 2D panel features side and centre consoles, three colour Heads Up Display (HUD) and various original gauges throughout the panel including Hornet style engine management readout.

    Package includes:

    • Single seat and tandem seat versions
    • Multiple weapons loads model variations
    • 4 CAF Squadrons, 3 CAF Demonstration textures, CAF AETE Tandem
    • Finnish and Swiss Air Force versions
    • Total Hornet combinations
    • Detailed landing gear
    • Fully animated control surfaces
    • Animated tail hook and folding wings
    • Animated canopy and pilot ladder

Tried with FSX Steam which is specific to my review. Not much to get excited about here. Sure it’s not for FSX SE but I thought I’d try it anyway and while it did install and can be flown, it’s not very good. You would need to have a bit of knowledge with editing .cfg files to correct some things but that won’t help the fact that hardly anything in the cockpit can be moused or clicked. So if you’re thinking about trying it out for versions of FSX that it’s not intended be warned that it isn’t really worth the effort. If you use FSX 2004 then I think you should grab it since it’s free.

Hicks!!!...

I bought this last night, after seeing one of the other reviews and umming and ahhing for a long time. Glad I did, I buy the military jets for airshow stuff mainly, and this excels there, looks like an F18, feels the way it looks like it should, and generally just a dream to fly. The F/A 18 in it's various guises has long been a favourite of mine, and a plane that nobody seems to get right. It always seems to either break too easily or the roll-rate is too slow. Not this lady, she lives up to the 18. The first 2 aircraft I ever flew over the San Francisco bay in any simulator were the F16 and F18 in Interceptor on the Amiga, last night I came full circle, and flew both over the Bay area again, but this was the one I enjoyed as back then.

This package was the first payware addon I have purchased for FS9. It is also a perfect example of why payware addons are worth the money that they cost. Externally, the models are flawless. Are the right pieces are where they should be, the liveries are accurate, and the overall presentation is stunning. The lighting is high quality, wingtip vortices occur naturally, and yet it still manages to avoid excessive FPS hits. The panel is also top-notch quality, all the advertised clickables work as advertised, with the possibility to do a complete cold-start procedure through the pop-up 2D panels (I suspect that there would be more switches to flip in real life, but this package includes enough to provide immersion without having to memorize 32 steps). My only qualm with the 2D panel would be that there doesn't seem to be clickable buttons to adjust AP settings (I may be mistaken in this, but who gets a fighter to cruise on AP for anyway?). The HUD is of high quality, easily readable, and has a very good refresh rate -- it doesn't lag behind the aircraft as some freeware HUDs have the tendancy to do. The VC is of the best quality I have ever sampled in FS9 (remembering that this is my first payware addon). I haven't found anything clickable in the VC, which may be somewhat of an immersion damper for those who prefer to only fly with the VC. The HUD is slightly degraded in VC mode, and a lack of brightness adjustability for it (although the red and yellow may be easier to see than the green in VC, I have not tried) can make it harder than necessary to read -- although I am without a TrackIR, and I'm sure that those who fly with one (particularily the vector expansion) would not be too bothered by the VC HUD (although unlike the 2D HUD, in VC mode the display does lag 1/4 to 1/2 a second behind the aircrafts movements. In terms of flight model, to my knowledge this package was tested by a real life hornet pilot leading me to believe that it behaves authentically (it certainly doesn't feel over- or under-modeled), save for the airbrake which seems overpowered for the effect that I have read it has in real life. To summarise, this pack does everything right and has sold me entirely on the idea of paying for addon planes -- there is no disputing that this pack is worth the price. My only suggestion would be a bundle of all 3 aerialfoundry packs for a less than full-price cost be considered, as while the quality is undeniable, a lot of what is in each package are common traits, making buying all three at full cost seem a bit much. If you like the CF-188 or F/A-18 you can not go wrong with one of aerialfoundry's packs.
