Aspen Pitkin County Airport is not an airport to be taken lightly. Not only is it surrounded by high and steep terrain on almost any side, it is also prone to severe weather, with strong winds and massive snow falls, and to make matters worse it is located at 7,280 ft.
Even when the weather is warm and visibility is great, the combination of altitude and high Density Altitude (see appendix A) will make departures and arrivals even more dangerous. As the runway is only usable in one direction (RWY15 for landing, RWY 33 for departure) you might be forced to land with unfavorable winds. A glance at the accident databases online shows how dangerous Aspen can be.
The airport is mostly used by ‘private’ jets Gulfstreams, Learjets and the likes are very common. Of course this is because Aspen has its fair share of rich and/or famous residents. The stunning scenery, (pun intended), the ski slopes and the relaxed feel of the small town (population 6,000) make it a popular place to relax and spend some time in semi-anonymity.
This Extended version is a full rebuild of the original 2007 version using the latest technology and features the updated longer runway.

Scenery is well done, the terrain is great.. I wondered why I never saw an airplane taxi or takeoff and I see why now. I opened the AFD file to make some changes and discovered what I can only describe as a half complete AFD file. no taxi links, plenty of parking but none of the parking is connected to anything. I have seen some really bad AFD files but this must be an oversight. I will work on completing it now but wow! an otherwise great scenery
I had thought that “extended” might mean a bit more scenery area coverage like I’ve seen with several other Aerosoft extended or “X” products. It’s not tiny or anything and it does cover the whole valley with excellent detail and loads of custom autogen. I was hoping for something like the MtEverest area or maybe not that big but more than this. I can’t say I didn’t get what was paid for, no way. This is an excellent scenery add on. Seems small for 2.5 GB. Whatever it’s very nice and the summer / winter textures is very nice.
Definitely a must have airport package love everything about it lots of detail and lot's of eye candy around the airport aswell really good airport if u want a challenge at landings and take offs so massive well done to the scenery team at aerosoft on a fantastic airport and scenery night textures are amazing aswell defo 5star's for this love it ;) :) even better in the winter textures aswell ;) :)
