Kigali International Airport (IATA: KGL, ICAO: HRYR), formerly known as Kanombe International Airport, is the primary international airport serving Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.
The airport is located in the suburb of Kanombe Sector, at the eastern edge of Kigali, approximately 5 kilometres (3.1 mi), by road, east of the central business district of the city of Kigali.
It is the hub of Rwandair, the country's national carrier, that has been extending its fleet and its network during the two last decades. It is served by several international airlines like Brussel Airlines, KLM, Ethiopian, Kenya Airways and Turkish.
A local helicopter operator, Akagera aviation, provides tours and safari trips to Akagera national park, known for its wildlife (including gorillas).
Kigali is only less than three hours flight away from Addis Ababa, Mombasa and Nairobi.
