A Brief History of the Avro 504K
First flown in 1913, the Avro 504K was to become one of the most famous aircraft of all time. It started its long career in 1914, when 3 504As, of the Royal Naval Air Service, bombed the German Zeppelin sheds in the first planned raid in aerial warfare. The Avro 504K was one of the first aeroplane types used to strafe troops on the ground. It also had the unenviable distinction of being the first Entente aeroplane to be downed by enemy anti-aircraft fire.

In the winter of 1917–18, converted 504Js and 504Ks were given to Home Defence squadrons of the RFC to replace the ageing B.E.2cs. These aircraft were modified as single-seaters, armed with a Lewis gun above the wing on a Foster mounting, and powered by 100 hp (75 kW) Gnome or 110 hp (80 kW), with around 226 still being used as fighters at the end of World War I

Though it was soon obsolete as a front-line aircraft, it came into its own as a trainer, with thousands being built during the war, the major production types being the 504J and the mass produced 504K. Around 8,000 Avro 504s had been produced by the end of the war in 1918.

Whilst the aircraft stayed in RAF service after the war, large numbers of surplus aircraft were available for sale, both for civil and military use. More than 300 504Ks were placed on the civil register in Britain. Used for training, pleasure flying, banner towing and even barnstorming exhibitions. Civil 504s continued flying in large numbers until well into the 1930s when aircraft like the DH Tiger moth replaced it.

The 504N, which had a radial engine and a redesigned undercarriage, was produced in 1925 and was chosen by the RAF to replace the 504K. Used to equip the RAF's five training schools, a total or 592 504Ns were produced between 1925 and 1932. The 504N was also used by the armed forces of Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Denmark, Greece, Thailand and South Africa, with licensed production taking place in Denmark, Belgium, Canada and Japan. The Soviet Union produced a copy of Avro 504K under the designation U-1.

The Avro 504 was finally replaced in 1933 by the Avro Tutor, ending the career of this truly remarkable aircraft.

This is an outstanding add-on and I really recommend it. A very original idea that barely takes any resources from your system, and really adds to the atmosphere, especially for those who like flying low & slow.

Highly detailed aircraft that is nearly perfect! I love opening up the weapons bay to show off the amazing detail!

Conceived and executed beautifully. The model detail is exquisite, you can zoom in all you want on that little engine, the wear marks in the cockpit, the delightful selection of liveries, all make for a highly recommended package. The flight model is so detailed that you have to consider ballast if you are flying solo (easy to manage in the aircraft settings when composing the flight). The inclusion of an autopilot is a huge help to those of us with accessibility issues (me, I'm old with arthritis) and it works perfectly with my Logitech Multipanel. The little GPS unit's position can be adjusted to avoid glare and even has a synthetic view for all your IFR ultralight flights (LOL). I have to get annoyingly nitpicky to find any fault. The only things I'd like to see changed are the beautiful all blue liveries need a black cockpit like the others because of horrific glare and reflections in the little wind screen. It'd also be nice to see a blue stripe or something on the nose of the blue & white float livery. That's it, that's all I could find "wrong".

This was a really nice surprise. The detail of the 3D model is excellent, as is the texturing. The flight model seems good. There are a number of nice features that I wouldn't expect at this price point such as the tablet, the tiltable GPS mount and iCom radio. There is also a float version. Don-
't take my word for it though...check out the demo/freeware version from the developer's website.

Great plane - my favorite. Please add back in Auto-Trim. At least make it an option - not sure who said remove it, but that's one of the features.... -

it flies stiff. And flap switch does not work in cockpit. I think max weight is a little light too. I could be wrong with the weight though. I am researching it more.
DIGITAL DESIGN - EDDP LEIPZIG-HALLE FSX P3D2-4

Another beautifully done scenery. I also enjoy Digital Design's LOWS for FSX. Detail is excellent. U-
nfortunately on my first trip into EDDP IFR I was put on vectors for 'an ILS approach' circling for the runway (26L) specified in the initial approach clearance, not a specific ILS approach to a specific runway. The AED/AFCAD includes the ILS frequencies for all 08/26 approaches so I'm not sure why inbounds are not vectored for a specific ILS. This is a big issue and the first time I have seen this with any add-on scenery of which I have several. Additionally the AED/AFCAD shows an ILS approach to a runway '10/28'. There is no runway 10/28 at EDDP. Too bad as, like I said, the scenery is extremely well done.
