This is actually the best CaptainSim product available for FSX. I own all of their planes and this is my most recent addition. Got it on a flash sale at CaptainSim direct. The full asking price as is is far too high by today’s standards. Not to suggest it’s bad or anything, just way too expensive. That said I
After having got it for a fraction of that insane high price tag, I’ve come to feel very good about the add on and would’ve paid maybe $40. Tops knowing what I know now.
This 757 package is their best effort and very well executed. The textures are all very good quality and look like the real thing. The cockpit is stocked and fully functional except for maybe a few minor things. You get two fully functioning FMCs that can be used independently of one another. The systems all seem to be modeled accurately or at least believably. Night lighting is really good with touches of ambiance brought by the adjustable lighting options in the cockpit. The taxi and landing lights are better than the average CS add on.
You get (like most CS add ons) a cool virtual cabin with views from business class and coach. The tallies are stocked with various sundries and whatnot. Even the cabin entertainment screens on the bulkheads show a tiny simmed but looped and brief movie clip, the moving map of the current flight or the pre flight safety announcement.
Where the flight characteristics are concerned I believe this to be again their best offering. Hand flying is fluid and easy with a very responsive behavior.
The engines sound right, and so do all the ambient effects like wind over the windshield, rolling rattles on take off or high speed taxiing, shuddering upon landing etc. It’s all there.
You also get the captain and flight attendant audio announcements that you can select by pushing on a collections of buttons on the overhead.
There are a ton of liveries available for download and easily added (unlike the wonky and inconsistent iFlys plane liveries) via the 757 aircraft manager. The same manager also provide options for weight and balance with either presets, randomizer, or fully customized click by seat click.
All well done. My only complaint is that it’s hard on frame rates. For example my QualityWings 787 using its HUD runs at 40+ FPS on average at the same places or flights that this 757 is struggling to average 24-28. Not sure why?
In the end I feel like I got a solid 757 simulation that is fun and satisfying. But I’m glad I didn’t pay full price considering it needs more optimizations for the performance.
