ARGENTINA

Captain Vicente Almandos Almonacid Airport (FAA: IRJ - IATA: IRJ - ICAO: SANL), is an airport inaugurated on October 11, 1948, located 6 km northeast of the city of La Rioja, in the Province of The Rioja. It was named in honor of Vicente Almandos Almonacid in 1972, a pioneer of aviation in Argentina. It is currently the operational base for air resources of the National Fire Management Plan.

In 1969, the new runway was built, orientation 03/21, of asphalt concrete with reinforced concrete headers and platforms, with an extension of 2,860 by 30 meters wide, a fact that allowed Aerolíneas Argentinas to incorporate Carabelle-type aircraft into service in La Rioja. , which were later replaced by the Boeing 737.
