Los Pozos Airport (IATA: SGL, ICAO: SKSG) is a Colombian airport, located south of the department of Santander, in the municipality of San Gil. It is located in a strategic area, where more than 30 municipalities from the provinces of Guanentá and Comunera converge.
It is located on the north side of the city, at an altitude of 1750 m above sea level. n. m., being the most important in the south of Santander. It receives charter and commercial flights during the tourist season, and its operations are managed from the Palonegro International Airport in Bucaramanga. However, in 2014 it was closed by Aerocivil due to the precarious conditions of its landing strip, where planes and people interacted closely, causing the death that year of a person when his head collided with an airplane wing he was carrying. to the then governor of Santander, Richard Aguilar, while a kite festival was held on its landing strip.1 In 2019 it reopened, after a series of reforms and remodeling made to its infrastructure and landing strip, in order to make it more competitive in the country and prepare it to receive large-scale commercial flights, due to the growing tourism in the region by nationals and foreigners, taking into account the declaration of San Gil as the Tourist Capital of Santander.
