October 2006 VOLUME 10 - ISSUE 10 - This is the full magazine in digital form!

    Flying the Memories
The PBY Catalina was the most successful seaplane ever built. The Catalina was used in all theaters of operation and in many different roles ranging from combat, reconnaissance, special operations, to search and rescue (SAR missions). The SAR missions were nicknamed “Dumbo” missions.

    International Flight Sim Convention 2006
The IFC USA convention in Denver this year proved to be popular among flight sim enthusiasts and flight sim publishers and retailers alike. There was plenty to see and do, and convention attendee, Dereck Scott was on hand to report on everything that went down, and up!

    Worldwide Friendships through Multiplayer Servers
Flying online is a great way to interact with other virtual pilots from around the world. You get to mett such a variety of people from so many different countries and places. In fact, some pilots wont fly their simulators without an internet connection anymore because it is so much fun!

    Flight Simulator X Preview
Though it was advertised as including only three aircraft and two airports, the FSX demo actually included three new-to-Flight Simulator aircraft and twelve airports in the Caribbean area of St. Maarten. In spite of aircraft and geographical limitations, compared to what’s expected in the new release, the trial version provided an interesting and exciting overview of Flight Simulator X.

    The Director’s Cut
Screenshots are great for displaying your favorite FS flights, approaches, flying conditions, aircraft or scenery. But sometimes a single shot just doesn’t do a situation justice. You need a movie! Grab a director’s chair and join Peter Stark as he shows you how to direct your own Flight Sim action sequence.

    Round Robin Adventures
We are flying a NAVEX/Pilot Trainer as members of the Air Force reserve based at Dobbins AFB (Atlanta/Marietta) Georgia.

The Virtual Airline Option – VA Reviews
This series is an attempt to assist prospective virtual airline pilots in selecting a VA that meets their expectations and offers the flight experience they seek.

    Freeware Frenzy
    Mini-Reviews of popular sim downloads.

    From the EDITOR..
Welcome to this months issue! Plenty has happened since last month on the Flight Simulator X front. Firstly, not only was the demo released last month, but restrictions on beta testers of the product have also now been lifted, which means we can freely write about the new Flight Simulator package. You will notice in this month’s issue we have a preview article that takes a look at the contents and features of the demo version released by Microsoft. It is very interesting and well worth reading.

Once the final release version becomes available to the public, we will be publishing our full review in Computer Pilot. As with previous major sim releases, we will be authoring and publishing a massive review of the new product, not just some shallow 4-page bullet-point commentary you might find elsewhere! Our full 20-page review of Flight Simulator X will appear in our December issue of Computer Pilot Magazine. It will cover all the new features of the product in detail with a full wrap on the user interface and many of the inclusions that are less-obvious to the user. As a follow-up in subsequent issues, we will present a tips and tricks article, and then begin a long-running series on using the new simulator for both new and advanced users alike. Over the next 12 months, and beyond, you will get the best FSX coverage and collection of follow-up tutorials and hints we think you will find anywhere! So stay tuned, because things are heating up!

But for now, enjoy this month’s issue, packed full of tidbits to suit anyone’s taste buds!
You get it all in the world’s best monthly flight sim publication, Computer Pilot!
