One of the big news stories in the flight sim world to emerge recently was the announcement that Microsoft will be releasing an expansion pack for Flight Simulator X. Be sure to check the news section this issue for more details. But more importantly, it appears Microsoft is also working on a service pack for FSX that will supposedly address key performance issues end users are having with the simulator. Let’s hope that when Service Pack 1 arrives that it boosts the average sim frame rate enough to make the sim flyable for those with anything less than a mega-computer! Time will tell.
As I write this I am preparing to head off to Australia’s premier airshow – the Australian International Airshow held at Avalon, in Victoria. It is the aussie equivalent of Oshkosh or the Paris airshows, and every bit as interesting. It is one of the four biggest airshows in the world. These shows are always great to attend to check out the latest in aviation technology, and sim technology too. Not to mention the jaw-dropping aerial displays that “wow” the crowds on a daily basis. If you ever get the chance to go to one of these feasts of everything aeronautic, don’t pass on the opportunity. They are great fun, informative, and show exactly what all our favorite sims do their best at trying to replicate! We will of course have a full airshow roundup next issue, so you wont miss any of the excitement.
