Commissioned in 1972, Diori Hamani International Airport serves Niamey, the capital of Niger, and bears the name of the country’s first president. Located southeast of the city, the airport underwent a major modernization programme beginning in 2018. Its new passenger terminal and upgraded facilities were inaugurated on 11 June 2019, ahead of the African Union summit, marking a new chapter in Niger’s aviation history.
