JSS Simulations Transall C-160

Compatible with FSX, FSX Steam and Prepar3D V3

The Transall C-160 spent 50 years providing logistical support to many of the world's air forces. A truly versatile aircraft providing aerial refuelling, electronic intelligence, communications and of course cargo discharge. This quality aircraft at a reasonable price is the first of many fantastic aircraft combining both realism and quality from new developer JSS Simulations.

Introducing the Transall C-160

The Transall C-160 (C-160) is a military transport aircraft. It was designed to meet specific German and French Air Cargo requirements by a specially formed consortium of MBB, Aerospatiale and VFW-Fokker. This consortium was called "Transporter-Allianz" which is where the name TransAll comes from. It was also sold to both the South African and Turkish Air Forces.

The C-160 first flew in 1963 and remained in service for over 50 years, providing logistical support to numerous overseas operations and deployments. It has performed specialist roles including aerial refuelling, electronic intelligence and communications platform.

The C-160 is a twin turbo prop engined tactical transport with a large cargo hold, a high mounted wing (wing areas 160m2) and ramp access at the rear underneath an upswept tail. It is ideal for cargo and troop transport duties (airdrop 88 paratroopers, transport 90 equipped troops or 62 stretchers) with a payload of 16,000 kgs, aerial supply and equipment deliveries, frontline service and casualty evacuation. The fuselage was designed to be compatible with international railway loading gauges to further improve cargo logistics and loading.
Tactically the C-160 has a superior short airfield performance which includes its ability to perform steep descents of up to 20 degrees, take off from 700m long airstrips and perform landings on 400-metre-long airstrips. It can carry up to 8.5 tonnes for 5,000 kms.

Each Rolls Royce Tyne engine has an auxiliary generator system which provides the C-160 with both electricity and hydraulic pressure. An auxiliary power unit provides power whilst on the ground and in occasional mid-air emergencies.

Wow! This is more than I’d expected. First thing you should know is you cannot just hit auto start control E, or even L for lights or G for gear, the usual short cuts don’t work. This is by design for some reason. You will always have to start cold and dark and follow the specific proceedings to get this thing turned on. Be prepared to do some POH reading, and even checking out various YouTube videos or forums for help. If you’re used to starting 50s-60s era from scratch then you’ll probably be able to figure it out with some trial and error. I myself read the manual, watched tutorial videos (only found 2) and finally got some forum help before I felt good about getting this thing rolling. My first flight was full of alarms, malfunctions and well, lots of rookie pilot errors. Each flight gets better and proves to be worth the effort. This plane is very nice.
One thing though and this is why only 4 stars. The pressurization alarm cannot ever be turned off. No matter how well one finds the error and corrects it, or even dives below 10,000 feet that alarm will be going for the rest of the flight. Pretty freaking annoying. I guess this plane doesn’t forgive or forget?
Great visuals especially at night with the UV lighting inside. The sounds are super cool! Way better than what most offer. I mean this thing sounds amazing! Flying feels right on but how would 8 know since I’ve never actually flown the real thing. But according to the many articles on the web that I’ve read this JSS model nailed it! It really feels very different from other aircraft. You know what I mean? After awhile of experiencing different sim planes you start to notice a pattern of how certain types will behave and often get a feeling of same ol same ol. Not here, not at all. Very unique flying experience is had with this model. Just remember that I warned you about the fact that many keyboard shortcuts or keystrokes do NOT work and it’s not a bug. Be ready to take time to learn and you’ll be glad you did.

Do buy it.

The Transall C 160 is a military transport plane that is simulated in almost all detail. The model, sounds, flying characteristics and systems are represented as faithfully as it probably is in the real aircraft. The learning curve is steep and rewarding. Careful attention to the manuals will reward the virtual pilot of this aircraft. Even though, it is hard work flying the thing and managing the several systems. I wholly recommend this excellent aircraft.
