    The Messerschmitt Me-262 Schwalbe (German for "Swallow") saw action from late summer of 1944, sharing the title of first operational jet fighter with the British Gloster Meteor.

    Me-262 began life in 1938, when Willy Messerschmitt was called upon to design a new fighter to be powered by two gas turbine engines. The configuration eventually chosen featured a sleek streamlined fuselage with the two podded engines carried beneath a low-mounted wing. Although the first airframe was ready to fly by 1941, the B.M.W. engines were suffering prolonged development delays, which slowed the project significantly.

    Developed steadily over the next two years, and using Jumo 004 engines, the Luftwaffe began committing the remarkable Me 262A-1a to combat in mid-1944 when they were pitted against the columns of heavy bombers making daily raids on German cities and military targets. Despite being well-armed with 30-mm cannons and air-to-air rockets, the Me 262 was simply too little too late to turn the tide of war in Germany's favor. Further variants appeared, most notably two-seater night-fighters and a reconnaissance version, although only in small numbers. Maintaining production was difficult due to Allied attacks on industrial centers, many aircraft being destroyed on the ground before they could ever fly.

    Some 1,430 total aircraft were built, though only about 300 ever saw combat. The Me 262 had a negligible impact on the course of the war, shooting down an estimated 150 Allied aircraft for the loss of 100 Me 262s, the majority of aircraft being grounded too often for lack of fuel.

    We hope you enjoy flying this remarkable rendition of history.

    Features:

    • Highly accurate VC;
    • Revi16B gunsight that folds accurately out of the way;
    • Revi16B can be turned on and off;
    • Five different models;
    • Eight different textures;
    • Accurately extending landing gear (e.g. on approach: main wheels first, them front gear);
    • Droppable Drop Tanks, that remove weight and fuel from the aircraft.cfg;
    • Accurate pilot flight suit and flight helmet;
    • Exhaust cones that move with throttle setting;
    • 3D gauges in the VC, for incredible realism.

    Please note that the Me-262 is a fairly demanding model, and is recommended for computers 3 Ghz and above, with dedicated graphics cards. However, those with less powerful computers (e.g.2.8 Ghz) have also run the 262 without serious problem.

    Flight Replicas would like to thank Shockwave for kind permission to use their jet sounds.

    I've been waiting for a good ME262 for a long time and I'm very pleased my wait is over. Solid job on the VC, external model, and textures. I have no complaints.

    For their first Addon-Aircraft FlightReplicas did a really nice Job with this... Although it's not a perfect Addon, it's really fun to fly. The visual Model is really good, same for the Virtual Cockpit but I'm missing some Instruments and clickable spots there. Unfortunatly this is not a realistic simulation, the Aircraft has newer engines, not the original Jumo004 Turbojets and therefore you don't have complex startup procedures or the characteristic high pitch engine sound which is ofter reported by old pilots ot the 262'er. The Flightmodel is good and fits to the reports that the aircraft handles poor at low speeds. I cannot judge if the price for this addon is justified... but for those who love this plane it's worth it.. so i give it 3 of 5 stars

    Ein gutes Flugzeug und als Erstlingswerk der Entwickler eine gute Leistung. Ein schön detailliertes VC und auch ein schönes außenmodell... der Sound ist anders als ich erwartet hatte - für die original Jumo-Triebwerke hatte ich einen höheren Sound, wie er oft in Reportagen beschrieben ist, erhoft. Ob 16€ für das Produkt gerechetfertigt sind, lässt sich drüber streiten... für Fans des Flugzeugs ja (da es leider nix anderes gibt) für andere... tjoa.. ich kann nur sagen, kaufen und die Erfahrung machen... ist schwer zu beurteilen und meine Eindrücke schwanken auch! Deswegen 3 von 5 Punkten!
