In 1943, the Hughes Aircraft Company took order from the USAF of a hundred military reconnaissance aircraft with an ambitious flight enveloppe including fast altitude, high cruise speed and unbeatable range. Three years later, this first prototype of the XF-11 was born. 6,000 horsepower provided by two Pratt and Whitney 28-cylinders radial beasts. The impressive "Wasp Major". And everything about this aircraft is over the top:

16 enormous blades mounted on 2x2 contra-rotating propellers.
A ceiling altitude of 44,000 feet.
A cruise speed of 300 knots at 30,000 feet
And a range of 5,000 Miles (4,300 NM).

Unfortunately this beauty was destroyed during its first flight, ending prematurely the story of the XF-11, but luckily making no casualities.

Today, Flying Fries is proud and honored to present you a virtual replica of this iconic aircraft. We have been scraping old drawings, schematics and low-quality photos for months, and here is the result in all its glory. A fully custom made aircraft, with high quality modeling and texturing, and a unique level of interaction with each system and each switch, down to every single circuit breaker.

The flight model has also been patiently crafted using Asobo's latest tools (CFD, modern propellers, modern fuel system, etc.).

From the complexity of the electrical and fuel systems to the custom pressurization module or the ground power unit and exterior items that you can operate directly by getting out of the plane and clicking on them, we have pushed the immersion to its maximum.

Take off, set the auto-pilot and explore the vast cockpit of the XF-11. You will start with the pilot and navigator area, but you will also be able to crawl in the nose section into the photographer seat, to take a look through the lens of your camera or just contemplate the world by sitting in the fully transparent glass dome at the nose. And when you're done, you can check on the lower deck that the access door is closed and all 12 fuel valves are properly set.

For the bravest among you, there are some random failures of various severity that could trigger during your flight, making your life much more complicated!

Did we mention the useful clipboard that will allow you to set all your options, check your failures and handle your refueling tasks without opening the in-game fuel menu? And did we mention the many easter eggs that are yours to find?

Truly a big disapointment. The aircraft looks nice and flies ok but not overall right. It very quickly looses speed with engines at idle so it gets slow and very nose heavy quickly. It certainly has too much drag. Other than that it flies nicely and plausibly. What is very disappointing is the low quality of the gauges. They are very hard to read as well as some writings in the cockpit. Worst are the sounds. These mighty radial engines should sound mighty but they are more like a sewing machine. You hardly hear any flaps or gear sounds and touching down sounds like Micky Mouse. This very much ruins the experience for me. Very big disappointment especially for that amount of money!

Got this from the Marketplace but wanted to chime in here. I was skeptical about this aircraft considering its real world history and not really ever getting much real world air time. It does however look like a very special aircraft and has that “what if” factor that really leaves one to wonder. The texturing is really nice everywhere I have looked. There are a bunch of Easter eggs throughout the plane so give it a walk around and look in all the corners for some cool bits. As far as how well its flight model is designed, nobody can really know but it behaves as described on paper. It’s fast and about as maneuverable as described (see Wkiki) giving it a believable pitch and roll behavior. Won’t be doing any loops or rolls on this. Not safely at least. It cruises nicely at about 389mph, FL350 at about %80 throttle giving some room for some extra escape speed and whatnot. It’s unique and fun, it doesn’t feel like anything else that can pin down which is nice. The night lighting is excellent and the sounds are great IMO. The start up smoke is quite a sight. Best to read the manual a bit as the plane can bite back with certain aggressive inputs. I have had to restart the engines several time during flight because I did not read up or fully understand its systems. Overall this “what if” bird is truly different and clearly crafted with love.

What a Gas!! Just complex enough to be interesting, and just simple enough to avoid studying a 500 page manual. I don't know of any twin engine props that can fly 300 kts at 40 000 feet. Really enjoying it. Watch the crash scene in the Aviator movie and you'll see haw accurate the aircraft's modeled.

质量还可以，整体质量略优于Redwing出品的古董机。可看作是大号P38，内舱质量基本同Flyingiron的P38l，机身建模和金属反射做得差点，该做的按键断路器之类的交互也都有。
