The Widgeon was originally designed for the civil market. It is smaller but otherwise similar to Grumman's earlier G-21 Goose, and was produced from 1941 to 1955. The aircraft was used during World War II as a small patrol and utility machine by the United States Navy, US Coast Guard and by the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm.
The first prototype flew in 1940, and the first production aircraft went to the United States Navy as an anti-submarine aircraft. In total, 276 were built by Grumman, including 176 for the military. During World War II, they served with the US Navy, Coast Guard, Civil Air Patrol and Army Air Force, as well as with the British Royal Navy, who gave it the service name Gosling.

Having watched this go on and off sale several times as it sat on my wishlist I finally pulled the trigger. The screenshots don’t do it justice. It looks better (on my pc at least) than those shots. It also flies really nice. It doesn’t steer well on the water as there is no water rudder. You have to carefully manipulate the throttles separately in order to turn on the water. So be sure to give your surroundings a real good look before trying to power steer this duck. You’d think they’d have a rudder on this but apparently not. I also wish there were a couple more civil liveries. At any rate it’s well made and nice to fly. Great for island hopping and seeing the sights. No auto pilot at all by the way.
Everything that matters is done well by FSW and that is most important. Great catch on sale.
